I just looked at the promo that Fender sent me on the the new Elite series, specifically the Elite Dimension, and the features trumpeted in the promo looks exactly like the features of the Deluxe Dimension. How are the two different besides a slightly different name and a $100 increase in price?

One notable difference is the absence of a single humbucker option without the 5-way selector.

Owning a Violin burst American Deluxe HH V Dimension, I'm contemplating to get a 4 string natural/maple as well. Just love the feel and tone of these basses. However, would like to understand the difference between the American Deluxe and American Elite models before I make a purchase.

Is it just a rebranding? or is there actually a difference?

Thanks!!

The Elite series of basses are tweaked version of the Deluxes - normal upgrades that happen in the life of any model. The Dimension generally has these upgrades already, so there isn't a particular improvement on the Deluxes.

Fender isn't trying to scam you. I would suggest that Fender drew from the experience of the Dimension and decided to leverage this experience to develop the Elite P and J basses and align them with the Dimension bass product - this confusion is just a marketing / product development transition point.

Remember the Dimension was initially developed out of sync with the other basses. Fender will be expecting a lot of this confusion about the Dimension Deluxe vs the Elite and will just ride out the criticism as an unavoidable marketing transition issue.

Thanks for the clarification.

So for the P and J basses there is actually a difference between the deluxe and Elite. For the American Dimension basses there is none. So no physical differences at all.. only based on the serial number/production year, you can see if your US Dimension is a deluxe or Elite.

That is all cool and understandable. Would have appreciated a clear explanation somewhere in the product release.. "In order to have consistency in our product offering we renamed the American Deluxe Dimension to Dimension Elite. The product itself has not been changed, it is as good as it already was.""

That is not really how marketing works - that wouldn't sell anything :-)

The cool part is that you'll be able to buy a Deluxe on the cheap because it isn't an Elite-branded bass.

:D you gotta love the marketing guys...

 I've got my US Dimension deluxe 5 for almost half of an elite. Absolute killes bass. Next to my Pedulla basses an absolute keeper.
