In my search to find a good short scale bass, I couldn't really find anything that I liked as I'm a fender guy. Love their products over any other guitar. First, I bought a short scale neck and thought maybe it would fit on my Fender American jazz, Not. It would have required modifications that would have ruined it's value so, Plan B. I took a Squire jaguar and rebuilt it . Took it all apart. Put on a new heavy bridge, redesigned and new pearl pick guard, sanded and sealed the headstock, custom shop jazz pickups, grover tuners, new chrome knobs, added an inlay at the 7th fret, set the truss rod, adjusted the string height and intonation, and adjusted the action at the bridge. Here is a before and after. The picture is before the knobs changed. Image
For not really know how work on guitars, I'm really pleased at how it looks and sounds like a Jazz bass

That's pretty cool. It's like you have your own "artist model." 8) You know, I could be wrong, but didn't they actually make a short scale Jazz many moons ago? It sounds familiar, perhaps even a thread on it.

You may still not be able to work on guitars, but you are a not too shabby bass tech. It looks like a Salvador Dali Signature Jazz and I like.

I really want to put a thumb rest on mine...but I'm too scared to ruin it.

You can do it .
The worse case is you just have 2 extra screws in the pickguard. No one will notice.
