Wondering how they are. The Made in China run they did last year, I think it was.
1. How is the build the quality? Good as a Japanese or USA fender bass?
2. How's the sound - similar to a Pbass? If different. how so?

Thanks for the feedback.

I don't know of anybody that ever bought one. I do know they were a flop along with the Starcaster and were both quickly discontinued.

To be honest, my 67 Coronado II was probably the worst sounding Fender bass I ever owned. Nice looking. Floating bridge was a nightmare. Not sure why they even reissued it from any country. And I love Fenders, so for me to say something negative...well, it is my opinion.

My tech plays 60s Harmony hollow bodies and loves them.

I bought one from Sweetwater, but returned it and got a used Mustang Bass for about $300 less. Anyway, build quality was excellent and it was really beautiful.

I actually did an "unboxing video" of it, because I could find no one who owned one and I thought it might be helpful for others.

Anyway, I returned it because it was wicked heavy and didn't feel quite Short-Scale to me, even though I know it is.

Hope this helps.

No surprise there.

Anything worth inventing, Leo had already invented prior to selling the company. FMI thought they could cash in on the Guild Starfire/Gibson EB2 craze but by the time they had a marketable instrument ready to ship, that bus had already left the station as bassists began returning to the solid-body camp.

I'll tell you what really killed those basses, You couldn't buy a case to fit either of them!!

I don't knowof any other bass model made by Fender that didn't either fit in an existing case or come with its own,

Bad move on a hollow body bass. No case =no sale for a lot of people. Who wants to risk their hollow body baby in a gig bag?

You can buy a case from Fender for $150

But, really, they should come with at least a gig bag.

Late to the party here! well actually, no, I bought a CAR one in September 2014. It came with a gig bag and you can now get a hard case for it too (although it fits nicely inside the Epiphone Jack Casady case).

It's a heavy beast for a short scale, probably on account of the centre block, although surprisingly no neck dive. Build quality is exceptional for a Chinese made instrument (why should it not be?) with no rough edges, sharp frets or big gaps anywhere. The twin TV Jones-alike humbuckers produce a typically humbucker sound and very unlike any other Fender I've played. I use it when playing Country/Americana and blues and it fits very nicely.

It's never going to replace my Precisions or Jazzes but a worthy addition to my bass arsenal and I've been very pleased with it.
