I'll bet it does. I wonder how good their Ignition basses are? Obviously, they aren't going to be like the German ones, but maybe their quality control might be OK. If they are any better than the Douglas I have, the same, or better or worse than the Epiphone. Of course, that can be a crap shoot when you're dealing with that price range. Not ever one will be the same. The main gripe I have with mine is the pickups are kind of weak, which can be remedied to some degree, without replacing them, which is realistically not a great option. The MXR Bass Preamp helped when I had the Orange head, and the Ampeg has a bit more options in that department, but I do have to turn the amp up a bit more, than I do with the Ibanez.

I would do a Hofner Ignition Violin in that price range, now that I've seen the failings of the Epi Viola. Yeah, ...... an issue can happen with any manufactured item of anything. Including a Hofner Bass. I like the electronics of the Hofner, and they play well.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the Hofner Ignition might even be cheaper than the Epiphone one, as well.

You're right, the Hofner Ignition is $50. less than the Epi.

Yeah, it's pretty decent actually. Knowing what I know now, I would be more apt to go for an Ignition, just in the QC, aspect between the Hofner, and the Epi. $50. bucks less, makes it even more enticing to go with the Hofner as well.

Plus, it's more authentic to the original design, since it's from the same company.

That's very true Paul. It should have a pretty comfortable playing weight as well.

That's the great thing about a hollow body. That, and you get that certain tonality from it.

You really do. I'm thinking the Ignition is the way to over the Epi Viola, anyway.

Did you ever play on the Ignition models at all?

I had one a couple of years ago, before I decided to get the first 500/1 '64 Hofner. It was a good bass. I just decided to get the 500/1 '64 Hofner in place of it.

Would you say, sans the quality control issue, that is was a better bass than the Epiphone, or about the same?

I would give the edge to the Hofner. For QC, and price. Hofner also for the sound quality.

Yeah, and it does look like an actually Hofner, because it is, sans a few details of the more expensive models. Not that I really give a tremendous crap about a the name on a headstock, as long as the bass does what it's supposed to, but that's still cool they have that as an option. I'm a little bummed that AMS quit selling them, though. I do prefer doing business with them, but if I ever get to a point that I can get my hands on one, I'd have to look elsewhere. I'd do it as an upgrade to the one I have now, simply for the better electronics, from what you've described with them. It would be cheaper than trying to replace the pickups with what I have, which is about the main issue I have with my bass. The pickups could use a boost.
