So many bass players have been turned away from Gibson basses, it may not matter now.

Why is that? Bad quality control?

Absolutely. Also, Gibson never really offered a varied bass product line either.

Maybe with the new people in charge, that might change, as far as the QC is concerned. I know bass has always been the redheaded stepchild for the brand, though. Then again, look at Rickenbacker, which typically has even less bass offerings than Gibson, yet what they do have is iconic enough so it doesn't matter so much.

Rickenbacker is still Rickenbacker. Some players will acquire one just to own one. Gibson's, nahhhhh!

True, Rickenbacker has pretty much done things like they've always have, and not been screwed with by whatever corporation that happens to own them at the time, and questionable decisions made by people that aren't even musicians, but shareholders.

Rickenbacker is the wall. They are who they are.

I suppose you can't knock them for it, either. They are like this is what we do, if you don't like it, then f-you! Maybe not exactly that harsh of a statement, but probably the general idea of it all.

I can agree with your strong statement of Rickenbacker saying, here is what we make. If you like it, fine. If you don't, Image

It does seem to do them well, though. At least they are consistent.

It's been a family business for a long time.

Yeah, unlike most of the bigwig companies. Well, Martin is still a family run business, I do believe.

I think you're right about Martin as well.

Yeah, I checked on that, and it seems to be the case. You know, they actually put out electric guitars in the 80's, but never caught on, and semi-hollow body guitars in the 60's. I've always thought it would be nice to have one of their acoustics, or even their acoustic basses. Never got to play on any, though.

I can't recall any QC issues reported by anyone playing a Martin.
