I recently picked up another 88 Power jazz bass Special at a reasonable price since somebody had yanked out the frets and filled the slots with what, I didn't know. I just wanted the rare knobs and decided to take a gamble on the rest of the instrument. Do a frankenbass, perhaps, if it was too compromised.. When I got it, I discovered that the filler material was garden variety stuff. No c a, no bondo, no epoxy, and no strength. I very easily (and gently) removed all of it with a single edge razor blade. Literally just cleaned out the slots. My aim is to re fret this instrument and I am pretty sure that the original frets on these MIJ models were what we would now call "vintage style" Fender frets (which I bought cuz they cost next to nothing) but I like to do my homework. Can anyone tell me 1) if this is accurate, and 2) if there are any contacts to the shop in Japan which made these great basses or folks that worked there?

From what I see the previous owner converted the bass to a lined fretless and you want to refret it.
