That is where my travels have taken me as well. I do not think either will have a matching head stock, sadly, because the 61 still has the original finish and decal on the HS. The 60, which is the larger project, would not be appropriate with a matching HS. I have to do what is right for the basses, so my personal preference is taking second chair. But the colors, Daphne Blue for the 60, and Shell Pink for the 61, are appropriate, so that part is moving forward.

I am working with a restorer in Florida, and he is taking a lot of pictures of the process, which I will gladly publish once the projects are done. In the meantime, the hunt for parts continues.

Steve

Good call on both counts, Steve!

Definitely don't disturb the original decal.

Nice colour choices, too!

So the project was completed. It had a couple interesting twists. One of the 61s turned out to be a 60, so where I thought I could make one complete bass from two, I ended up having to restore two, and the 60 still has plenty of repro parts. I find a part now and then, but the complete restoration will not be officially completed until I find them all. The 61 is fully restored, all original parts. I play that one quite a bit. Nice tone and the old mutes have worn in really nicely.

I have attached a picture of the full pre-CBS collection, starting with the Daphne Blue 60 and working back to the Fiesta Red 64. I play that one often as well. You will see the Italia straps on those two. Brother Dave got me started on them, and once they are on, they are on, no strap lock needed.
