Hi,
I bought a Jazz Bass from 1978. Serial S854568. Now I have seen that the pickups got number 170983 and 101082. Does it mean that they are not original?
Thanks,
ippig

1978 was a very very good year. I was playing in an all original material band that had a recording contract - The Toasters.

Beyond that, the numbers you are seeing on your pickups are part numbers.

If you want to be sure about your bass, get a photo appraisal from George Ghrun. They are the experts. https://guitars.com/appraisals

Thanks Linnin, I will get in touch with Gruhn. But are the last two digits from the PUs are generally the year of manufature?

I'm pretty sure they are just part numbers and have nothing to do with date of manufacture.
