I picked up my sweet hot rod 70's jazz bass this past November and love it. I am a bit concerned with the quality I am beginning to see. Something as simple as a strap holder.......As you can see in the pics the screw bent and became loose causing the holder to turn and scratch the paint....not real happy that this happened on a bass that was expensive as this was. :x

Yeah,………. I'd be a bit bent out of shape about the happening to it also, if it were mine. .

I just bought a hot rod jazz neck for my Fender Jazz bass that I just pieced together as a player...great fender neck, fantastic quality. Although I have also seen similar strap button issues. The screws they are using just do not seem to stay tightened. I am paranoid and check and recheck them.

One thing you can do to help the situation is to put some Elmer's carpenter's glue on the threads of the screw. This will keep it from loosening, but won't bond the metal to the wood.

Strap buttons and all kinds of parts can loosen up on any bass. That is no reflection on the quality of the bass. You have to expect to do maintenance by tightening up strap buttons, tuner screws and anything that resonates or is moved by your style of playing.

Some bass players stand perfectly still when they play. Others do somersaults and flip their basses over their heads. You can't blame the manufacturer if parts loosen up on the active player's bass.

I rec. a toothpick in the strap button hole if the wood is stripped and the screw loosens up.
that and some white glue will fix most strap buttons.

Thanks everyone. I was able to re-seat new screws with some wood splinters and Gorilla glue. All is well again!
