Hi Everyone,

I own a Jazz bass with the serial number MN508581 which I believe puts it at 90s Mexican built. The Fender Logo and serial Number are all in black.

I have heard people say that the black headstock logo implies that it is Mexican built from USA parts although that could be complete BS, I dont know.

Also it interestingly has a Fender branded Lace Sensor Pickup at the bridge. I don't believe it to be a Jazz Bass Plus as it is not active.

If anyone could help me out that would be great.

Regards,

Charlie

The all black decal on a 95 Mexican Jazz reveals it is likely a Traditional Series model. They were making three versions at that time in Mexico. The three versions in order of expense from least to most were Squier Series (a real Fender and not a Squier), Traditional Series and Standard Series. Today of the three series only the Standard Series remains. While there were build quality and component differences, cosmetically the only visual difference between the Squier Series and Traditional Series was a small script decal reading "Squier Series" on the peghead area of the headstock on the Squier Series instruments. These decals were easily removed making it harder to tell if you have a Squier Series or a Traditional Series. This fact sort of cheapened the Traditional Series value wise. Fender Squier Series instruments from this period are not Squiers, but are real Fenders with Fender serials and a Fender warranty. The Squier brand wasn't a brand yet. The pickup on yours has obviously been swapped.
