I just picked up a beautiful 98. I have been tracking down documentation on line. Found the manual. Looking for a catalog or spec sheet now.

Right now I am mostly curious about the rosewood, it is very light in color, almost orange. Anyone have any ideas about the type, Brazilian Rosewood?

Just email your serial number to Fender's Consumer Relations and politely ask for all information. From what I've seen in the past they will email you the original build sheet with all specifications. 8)

There is no Brazilian rosewood on any standard production Fender bass made after 1970 approx. The Brazilian gov't imposed restrictions or rosewood exports starting in 1965 and they have been more restrictive ever since.

Pao Ferro is another wood often used on fingerboards and it is very nice. Your bass could have its fingerboard made from pao ferro. Fender will tell you if they have that info.

Fender stopped using Pau Ferro for their 5-string basses in late 2005.

5-string Deluxe Active Jazzes produced after 2006 came with a rosewood fingerboard.
