Purchased a new MP-V Jazz Bass - Made in PRC. Good Looking Guitar. Of course setup out of box was terrible with string buzzes and bad action.

Went through the neck, bridge and a new set of black tape flatwounds and it is playing very well. Happy with it.

However, the tone control is useless, just a little up (say 3) and start to get a nasty humm through amp. With 0 tone, the guitar is quiet and pleasant. Any thoughts on this? I removed control panel and all ground wires are connected etc. If I touch any of the metal (tuners, bridge or control plate) it quiets a little. if i touch the pickup poles, it intensifies. Any ideas to cure this?

Single coil pickups hum, especially when soloed. A Jazz Bass is wired to minimize hum when both pickups are up to full volume. If you are still getting too much hum one of several things could be going on. 1. You need to copper foil shield the pickup and control cavities and back of the pickguard. 2. It was wired incorrectly, double check the wiring. 3. The bridge ground wire isn't making good contact with the bridge. 4. You shouldn't be touching the pickup poles anyway. LOL
