Candy Apple Red 50th Anniversary Jazz Bass (2010)

Anyone know details on this bass such as edition size, etc? I heard it might be 500? Or was that the '97 Anniversary basses?

Thanks.

I never heard anything official from fender about production numbers. Rumors have said 500 produced.

I am not sure about the run size, but it is a really nice bass, and they pop up rather frequently. I was trying to pick up another one a couple weeks ago, because I really love the one I own. One of my top two jazz basses for gigging. I think I paid $1700-$1800 for mine, NOS, a couple years ago. Was working $1400 for the backup. Some guys are asking over $2K, you can get them for much less.

Wish I could help with the run size. No clue.

Steve

Thanks Steve. Yea, I love it too. It's my color… and a matching headstock. I am talking to a nice fellow right now about one for around $1100. Almost pristine, has all the case candy etc. It would compliment my Adam Clayton Jazz bass, I think.

It's made in America, isn't it?

All I can find regarding run size does refer to 500 worldwide, but the few mentions I did come across were from third parties, so take that for what it is worth.

Yes, it was made in USA. I actually peeled off the Made in USA sticker and stuck it to the back of one of the hang tags.

If you do not buy it, please let me know. $1100 is an excellent buy IMO, and I would certainly be interested if you pass.

I tested a lot of strings on mine, to where I don't remember what came on it, but it is now fitted with GHS flats and I love it. If I am taking a jazz to a gig, it will be that one, or my FCS60RI, which I think is the only gigging bass I have with rounds anymore.

Great bass, solid build, taking little bits and pieces from different design years. It just oozes coolness every time you strap it on, and it sounds and plays great.

Here is the intake pic of mine, still flying the Made in USA flag.

Good luck with yours. I cannot imagine you having any regrets once you play it.

I don't plan to pass on it. I am just trying to get the funds together ASAP before this opportunity disappears. This fellow says it also comes with the old fashioned mutes? I don't see that mentioned anywhere but I like that sort of thing.

Thanks the the info and for the pic. Looks beautiful!

It comes with single string mutes, but you have to install them, no holes drilled by factory. I did not install mine, but if you need or could use mutes for your playing, they are there. Maybe your seller installed them?

Actually, I think it also came with the weather stripping mute. I think you had a choice, 1, 2 or neither.

Tell me all about it when you have it. Nice purchase. Congrats.

One more thing.....there was a forum member that had an issue with the case (black interior) darkening the back of his neck. I have not had this issue with mine, but something to keep an eye on.

I am excited for you. Great bass.

Oh wow. Ok thanks for the tip Steve. I probably won't have it for another month or so but I'll show it off when it's here. Thanks for the input. 8)

Woohoo! I got one coming… :P

Saw pics last night of Ted Dwane and also Adam Clayton playing one of these. Looks real pretty under stage lighting.

Fender learned in 2004 never to limit runs on profitable commemorative models again. So far as I know no production caps were announced and they sold all they could sell. At one time Fender was doing limited runs of special commemorative models, and found out they could always sell more than they thought. So they stopped the limited commemorative models and sold all they could. These are really good models incorporating good features from several model years. I never was partial to the muting system on this model but the electronics are aces. The painted headstock reminded me of my 71 tuxedo Jazz.

Good to hear from you brotherdave. I keep seeing "only 500 made" all over the place regarding this one, but maybe they are mixing up the Fender 50th Anniversary models from 1997?

It finally arrived! What a process. I got a great deal (about $1200 US) but the shipping from Canada was a real hassle and pricey. All said, I probably paid in the neighborhood of $400 in shipping. But, it arrived with no damage and plays like a dream and looks even better. It's a little heavier than my Adam Clayton, but honestly, I like the sound alot better than the AC.

I consider myself lucky to get this one. I'll post pics soon.
