Anyone had already played the new USA Geddy Lee Jazz Bass? It's a nice blend of elements from three different basses: Geddy's two Custom Shop J-Basses and the original black 1972.

Here's the description:

Quote:
Bassists have loved the signature Geddy Lee Jazz Bass for years. The new U.S.A. Geddy Lee Jazz Bass is a new version that combines the specs and features of Lee’s three favorite basses—two Fender Custom Shop versions of his signature model and the original sleek black ’72 Jazz Bass that Rush’s revered bassist/ vocalist has riffed away on in front of millions of devoted fans worldwide and on many a megaselling album. The neck has a thicker custom profile, topped by a maple fingerboard with elegant white binding and white pearloid block inlays. For enormous tone that crackles with life and bristles with the energy, its two vintage-style single-coil Jazz Bass pickups are specially wound and voiced to sound like those on Lee’s prized 1972 original, and a Geddy Lee signature High-Mass bridge provides rock-solid intonation.

I'm sure these will sell well. Next best thing to Custom Shop without the CS price tag.

I guess the MIA Geddy will replace the actual MIM version since this model is 17 years old.

I placed my order for one already. Looks like it will be available in March! Fender will still make the MIM in addition to the MIA, at least that is what Mike from Fender said at NAMM.

Surprisingly not .....I just saw a clip from the Fender Booth at NAMM 2015 on You Tube with Session music & they're going to continue to sell both for now & I can understand why,.... the USA model & MIM model have different necks & the MIM also offer a Sunburst model..... that being said the new updated MIM Steve Harris P Bass will
replace the MIJ Blue Sparkle Steve Harris P Bass.... & I've heard that the Marcus Miller Jazz Bass has been discontinued,..... though it's still on the Fender website at the moment,... Marcus has partnered with some Koreans to develop some new entry level priced basses,.. the company is called Sire .... the Basses are called Marcus Miller by Sire. I was on their website last week.
Here's the link: http://marcusmillerbysire.com/marcusmil ... oduct.html

Good Luck Marcus,.... I love My MIJ Marcus Miller 4 string bass ....along with my CIJ Geddy Lee Bass they're 2 of the best basses I own ...that being said I'm dying to try the new MIA Geddy Lee Jazz bass. :)

In fact they're two Marcus Miller signature Sires, the traditional J-style V7 and the more modern 2-octave M3 with dual humbucking pickups.

Image

The V7 is available in 4 and 5-string versions, with the former sporting an optional chrome ashtray neck pickup cover. This model is offered with the choice of swamp ash body/1-piece maple neck or Northern American alder body/rosewood fretboard.

Regarding the MIM Geddy I've noticed the bridge is now the same as the MIA version.

Yes the bridge is the same but the pickups have been rewound & voiced to the same specs as Geddys pickups ..... his pickups were rewound just before the 2010 Time Machine tour ....at the same time the neck &
Pick guard were also changed to the current one's by Custom Shop.

No longer listed in the products' page. Seems that Marcus moved to the Sire camp.

Sire is an American brand; their offices are located at Corona.

The company has their instruments manufactured overseas using American-made components. I'll send an e-mail to Joe about future plans for a possible US production.

It's still listed in the international websites but not in the US site.

I don't think the MIA has a black neck binding on it either. Too bad the 3-Color Sunburst won't be offered on the MIA either. I like my MIM 3-Color Sunburst, with it's thinner C neck.

The MIA is a blend from three different basses.
