hi - I just purchased a 74' re-issue Jazz bass - black w/white pick guard and I want to change the pick guard to tortuous shell. I can't seem to find which pick guard to buy. I know mine is ten holes and I don't need the holes for the thumb rest or the ash tray covers etc... - can someone tell me where to find this and/or what my color and other options are? (by this I mean which pick guards will properly fit etc)

thanks!

Just about any of the pick guard companies can help you with a replacement PG for your '74 Jazz.

Fender makes replacement guards too, but they do have holes for the tug bar and covers because that is the way they were made originally.

Just look around and make your choice. No big deal.

Pickguardian will make you almost anything. I had them make me a tort PG for a '73 Ric with no holes for controls and no cutout for the neck pickup. Just screw holes. Fit perfect. Under stage lights I think Fender's tort has a lot more pop and detail than Pickguardian's, but then again, I've never heard of anyone coming to see a band a second time because of the bass player's pickguard.

Depending on the year of the bass and the color of the bass. You may get white ,black or tortoise shell PGs.
There were certain years that had all black PGs on every model. 1977 is one.
Custom colors in the 60's usually had white PGs. Some modern basses Vintage reissue basses are sold with tortoise shell guards.
