I just bought a jazz bass used, and when it came it had a blemish in the finish.

The finish is black so I imagine this'd be relatively easy to fix. I saw a guy on Youtube repair a blemish on his guitar by applying a layer of color-matched nail polish each day for a while until it built up, and that looked pretty good. Does anyone have any tips on how to do this at home? Please no "just learn to love it", I'd accept that if it was an older bass, but this is a 2013/2014 jazz bass and I want it to look as good as it can. Also please no "just return it", as I got too good of a deal to justify a return, considering it plays so well.

  Take it to a good auto body repair shop. If they'll do the job, they should be able to repair it like it never happened.

I'd prefer home methods, but I suppose that could be a last resort.

Would this work considering the blemish does go deep enough to touch?

Yep. You just will have to apply multiple coats and let it dry between each application. Read the directions in the item description. Build up the coats gradually until it is actually raised a tiny bit over the original finish then sand as instructed and once flush with the original finish you apply a light clear coat from the clear coat color pen. Patience is a virtue here. It might take 7 to 10 or even more color applications to build it up before ready to sand and then clearcoat. That will take at least a week, maybe more, however it will yield a good repair and it is about the best you can hope for in a do-it-yourself solution.
