...but I know why. I cannot stand how the control plate meets the pickguard. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. The fact that they are made of different materials, yet attempted to be put together seamlessly, looks very hodge-podgey to me. This is why I don't own a J, but a J Plus is on my GAS list. I think a J without a pickguard and with a control plate shaped like Tele plate would look much cleaner and incredibly smooth. They could call it the Deep Jazz.

I used to hate the look of Jazz basses - then something changed in me; I quite like them now.

Having said that, I can't get away from P-Bass Deluxe - it is my desert island bass.

It's okay to not like a Jazz. And I must say that I honestly have never seen a bass that didn't at least appeal to me a little bit. Even a smidgeon. A Hayman bass, a Eastwood bass etc etc. I'd take them and have for a test ride. The only basses to be truthfull that maybe don't appeal to me are actually Peaveys. I know guys like Jeff Berlin play the good ones. That's cool. I unfortunately got jaded towards Peavey equiptment back in the late 70's early 80's when I experienced the junkness of my TNT amp. Then the funky guitars and basses. I have a mind block against Peavey. The guitar amps to me have no sound just loud etc etc. Okay so it sounds like I'm ragging on PV but I do not care if other people like them. I do not think people who use PV equiptment have something wrong with them like other people do. People actually use Acoustic(brand) amps for guitar. Now that's wierd.

If Hartley Peavey called you up and offered you an endorsement deal would you take it?
Free amps, free basses and free strings, cords and even PA equipment for lets say the next 5 years. You must play Peavey gear in public at paid gigs during this time.
Would you do it?

I don't know about SV, but I'd agree to everything but the basses.

I've seen control plate covers in plastic on ebay, made to match the various pickguards available. I've been taking a long, hard look at a black pearloid pg/control plate combo for my charcoal JB. I might be back in a few week with some pics

I'd just get a mirror pick guard. It'd look great with the chrome control panel. 8)

My left-handed 2012 American Standard Jazz came in one flavor. Tri-Tone Sunburst with a tortiseshell pick guard with a rosewood fretboard. Perfect Classic Fender Jazz. I'll never change it, but I did make a few subtle artistic additions.

That is really nice. Great looking Jazz! I see you string over top, and not through the body. Cool. Image

Colored strings! Yellow and red! Man you are playing with my head.

If they had had those in the 70's there would've been some wild trips triggered by the sight of those strings.

"Whoa, mannnnn. That backwards bass is tripping me out. Far out, man ... but those groovy strings, whoa ..... they keep talking to me."

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Awww, man. Don't get me wrong. I don't look at them and go "EWWWW!" I love the necks, and I'm a Fender fan. The plate and pickguard just ruin it for me. Would prefer one solid pickguard/control plate combo instead of the 2 different pieces. Like I said in a previous post, I love the J Plus. Almost snagged one about 2 1/2 years ago. Was waiting for my tax refund and the guy said he'd hold it. Got my check 2 days later, called him, and he'd sold it. Still a little miffed about that. Would love to see another pickguardless and plateless option.

Well, you could always try out the Aerodyne J. If I spent my money only on getting pretty things I'd own 300 of those and nothing else

Soggy Weightlessness... Linngarten...BootCollarbassman--etc..

Well if PV offered me a deal maybe it would be with a bass that I really like with maybe my own touches to it. I'd design a whole new bass for them -- the "SV" if that wood work. Don't think I couldn't do it. Like I said I have a brain block about PV gear but that doesn't mean I hate it- As of now I don't use PV anything- just like I don't use Rickenbaker, Gibson, Ludwig, Selmer, or Char Broil Grilles, Chevy, Schmevlap ........
