...but I know why. I cannot stand how the control plate meets the pickguard. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. The fact that they are made of different materials, yet attempted to be put together seamlessly, looks very hodge-podgey to me. This is why I don't own a J, but a J Plus is on my GAS list. I think a J without a pickguard and with a control plate shaped like Tele plate would look much cleaner and incredibly smooth. They could call it the Deep Jazz.

Everybody is welcome to share their opinion here. That is what a discussion board like this is all about.
I don't share your point of view, but that is to be expected on a discussion thread about Jazz basses.

Fender makes many different designs of basses so one is sure to float your boat.

Good luck finding your preferred bass.

The Jazz Plus Deluxe(no pickguard) is a great bass, especially in passive mode.

I like the Jazz PG design over the Precision PG design. It's easier to remove the PG on Jazz, just remove the PG screws to remove it.

Not picking a bass that sounds really good because you don't like the looks of it is okay.

Vance, if you look at my gear list, you'd see I'm more of a P guy anyway. My HM is essentially a 3 pickup J with no pickguard. I can swing a ton of tonal variety with my basses and rig. So, I really don't need a J for the tone. Would you strap a bass on your shoulder if it's layout or design didn't appeal to you?

I like the pick guard on my Jazz basses & I like the Pick guard on my Marcus Miller Jazz bass
& no pick guard & only the bell plate on my Jaco Pastorius Fretless,..... on P basses I prefer tort, chrome & pearloid pick guards .... Vise a' Vise to each his own. :) diversity rocks!!

 I love everything about my Jazz. Tone first and foremost along with the versatility thereof. The Jazz bass body is a classic beauty with the sleekest & sexiest design ever. I feel better and more vitally alive every time I play mine. :)

I agree with liking my Jazz, and a very easy playability of it. A Fender Mustang has good playability to it also. 8)

I was a P-Bass guy first.
Once I tried a Jazz there was no going back.
I actually like the look of the Jazz and have no issues with the control plate except when it's hanging out there all by itself in the middle of nowhere such as on the Jaco model.

MY VB Jazz is awesome.

No control plate for you to hate and the body is just a smidgeon smaller and lighter than a stock Jazz. It's a rock monster. They moved production of that model from USA to Japan a few years back so they're tougher to get now.

It's okay to not like a Jazz. And I must say that I honestly have never seen a bass that didn't at least appeal to me a little bit. Even a smidgeon. A Hayman bass, a Eastwood bass etc etc. I'd take them and have for a test ride. The only basses to be truthfull that maybe don't appeal to me are actually Peaveys. I know guys like Jeff Berlin play the good ones. That's cool. I unfortunately got jaded towards Peavey equiptment back in the late 70's early 80's when I experienced the junkness of my TNT amp. Then the funky guitars and basses. I have a mind block against Peavey. The guitar amps to me have no sound just loud etc etc. Okay so it sounds like I'm ragging on PV but I do not care if other people like them. I do not think people who use PV equiptment have something wrong with them like other people do. People actually use Acoustic(brand) amps for guitar. Now that's wierd.

The Jazz Bass control panel is indestructible.

Well, look at that.
You're right.
They must have discontinued it in '14.
There was one in '13.

I guess that only adds to the rarity of my bass. You see very few of the MIA ones like mine already. Most of the ones I have seen have all been CIJ.
