Got the quilted top in the collection. That flat black does look nice. :)

I am thinking about buying the five string in flat black . Do you have any complaints with your bass ? Because I read the reviews in the musicians friend site and there are some that complained about low output compared to other passive basses . And this one being active should be the opposite .

any personal opinion would be appreciated !

I saw that too. My '87 was active oe, it always had sufficient volume, when I went w/EMG, it got louder than before. So it could be just that bass.

I used EMG's in two jazz basses before and they sound very hi-fi . Any Fender bass with EMG's is a killer bass . I love EMG pickups . Too bad they dont make direct replacements for the Fender five strings .

At least the 24 V has the basslines by Seymour Duncan pickups . I also love SD pickups too. I had a MIM Pbass and replaced the oe pickup with the quarter pounder pbass and that bass was a totally diff beast .

I know what you mean. Not that the pups on my Squier are SD, but they are SD copy - Duncan designed. It sounds just like the old '70s J bass - which is why the called it the VM '70s Jbass I guess. I always love EMG sound on bass, it fits the sound I look for.
