I like the Flat Black look. That's why I got my Highway 1 in Flat Black.

I do too. It's like my '87 but flat. Well, my '87 came with the p/j set up and Pbass body tho.

I used to think painted headstocks were horrible, but this one changed my mind. The flat black is awsome

I've always like the painted headstock. As a matter of fact, my '87 came with faux carbon fiber weave paint job on it's headstock. 8)

Na....never been a fan of black instruments. These are wood instruments and that's what I like to see!

Wood's nice, some of these basses, take away the paint, you'd not want to see what's underneath. I do like to see the grain tho, ash, maple, even more exotic woods like koa. Painted are nice on some.

Thanks!

The nice feature about these Deluxe FMT basses is the figured top is a full 1/8" thick piece of wood, not just a thin laminate. To bad they stopped making them....hope Fender brings them back!

Yeah, its a shame they stopped making the FMT & QMT (quilt maple top) Fender American deluxe J basses. They make for some different body choices and the pearloid blocks are a nice change/up grade to the standard dot marker necks. Now if you want a US bass with the block necks, you have to get the custom shop classic IV or V or a re-issue 75.

It all comes down to economics, I guess they weren't moving enough of them to justify keeping them in production. If I remember, they retailed for ~$1400 when the regular US deluxe J's went for $1100-1200.

Every so often you'll see one for sale on ebay.
