Hello, I recently bought a Blacktop Jazz Bass and have some doubts about the pickups.

When using the neck pickup alone at full volume it sounds really great. It sounds loud even at 1/4 of the amplifier's volume.

When using the bridge pickup alone at full volume it sounds really soft even when using the amplifiers full volume.

Is this huge difference normal? (I don't think so).

What can I do to fix this? Do I need to adjust the pickups height or it is an electronic problem?

Is this the Jazz bass with two p-bass pickups?

Check the pick up height. The bridge PU should be closer to the strings than the neck PU.

Check out the volume after raising the bridge pu.

Is it louder?

Remember it will always sound thinner than the neck pu just because of its location on the bass.

Many bridge pickups are wound hotter to counter this effect.

You may have to lower the neck pu to get a balanced output between the two pickups.

I will try adjusting the heights. I'm a little bit worried because neck pickup is like 10x louder than bridge pickup.

If you don't do your own work, take it to a tech. Often a bad connection in the wiring can cause the low output of a pickup. The key is to get it checked out by a competent repair shop. One that is not just interested in selling you a new pickup or pickups.

Good luck with it.

It's normal. The placement of the pickups makes a huge difference in output.

I got it checked and it was a short circit in the coil.

It was easily fixed.
