 I've had a very bad accident and my lovely AC bass now has a severely cracked body!!! I've written to the company to ask about a replacement body for it. All the hardware and electronics work fine. They should be able to get a replacement body to me, right? Or do I need to ship the whole thing to them? I'm sure they'll tell me, but I'm spinning my gears for the moment.

How did you crack the body ? It's gotta take a fall off of a building or something to crack the body of a jazz bass or some kind of high impact..

That's what I thought! I figured, "oh damn… my first ding". It was sitting on a table approx. 30" high and the table got shoved and off it went! Didn't go far, ...almost straight down and almost parallel with the floor. I've been baby-ing this thing since I got it in late Nov. It just kills me that I let my guard down for a moment and it was all over.

It may have landed on the strap button, and forced it up into the bottom of the body.

Maybe. It still plays well, believe it or not, but I can't stand the big split on the back.

Damn that's unfortunate ..... hopefully you can get another body ..... did you email a photo of the damage to Fender ? Photos always help one's cause. :)

Not just yet. Fender send me a pdf file with all sorts of instructions (including taking photos). I'm not trying to have them cover my loss. I'm totally aware of my responsibility. But the way they put it, they need to assess if they will sell me a new body or merely authorize an "official service center" to repair the damage. Honestly, I really don't want that. I only want official Fender hands on this. And what of the paint? If repaired, shouldn't it go back to the factory to be repainted so it matches the headstock? It's gonna be a bit of a process here. I don't know why I can't just prove I'm an actual owner with bill of sale and photos of damage to get a replacement item? ...Instead of going through such an approval process. I'd even send the broken body back.

That sounds like the beginning of a nightmare unfolding.

I just saw an official (made in USA) 'Jaco' body on ebay for $599. I see finished bodies like this there all the time. Maybe if I just wait a year or so I can get an AC body with no hassle?

Then again, I don't see the AC on the Fender website Jazz/signature bass lineup anymore…? Just a pic with AC. Discontinued? Can't be?

I asure you the Adam Clayton Jazz Bass has not been discontinued ... I also still see it on This Bass is still on Fender's website & sweetwater & others are still selling it online ..... just take it to an authorized Fender dealer/ repairshop & they'll take care of the rest .... I have done this in the past & it worked out great..... we're dealing with an item that is under warranty & they know what they are doing.

Yea, that's what I'll do. Thanks for the input.

May I ask, did you have a major component damaged/replaced?

The Bridge pick up on my Jaco bass started to get staticy shortly after I got it .... I eventually brought it in & they fixed it & then 6 months later the pick up stopped working so I brought it back & this time they changed the pick up ... they said there was an issue with the pick up it self ....anyway since 5hey changed the pick up I've had no issues.
