I remember some of the issues you had with ordering through Carvin.

Yeah, it took at least a month to even get the thing. If I had it all to do over, I seriously would have doubted I'd order from them. I should have just got a Fender cab. It wound up costing the same and I would have received it within two days from AMS. They're really fast and good to deal with.

It's true, the Fenders are decent, and most places don't play games with Fender products. Fender products do sell.

The one complaint I have with them right now, is I think they're lacking in the product department, than say they were a couple of years ago when they had all of the Pawn Shop and Modern Player series and they had more Squier offerings. I suppose it could be a financial decision, but it just seems to be slim pickings right now as far as bass selections go. Maybe I'm just being picky, too. :P I just miss the variety that was available.

Everyone has an idea of what's a good line to have available. Just the way it goes.

Yeah, I just miss some of that stuff. At least they have the Mustang series, which kind of takes from that idea, or originally influenced it.

It looks like I may have a Fender Standard, Arctic White / Maple Jazz going to ship tomorrow from Sweetwater. Maybe.

I had a feeling you might have. Hopefully, it will be a decent player and you don't have to send it back or anything like that.

Half of the battle, I can at least see partially what it looks like,, in the Guitar Gallery. The rest is up to luck.
The Mustang series is an interesting Fender series for sure. A bit odd how it's progressed over the years to it's present style. I do think the PJ is a very good idea in the series.

You can get pretty decent sounds from that pick up configuration, or at least I've had with some basses. It's sort of like a P Bass, but with a little bit of a Jazz kick to it, if that makes sense. Who knows what they'll even come up with next, if anything?

I just happened to remember a bass they had which was a Jazz Bass but had two P Bass pick ups in it instead. It was part of that series that had the humbuckers in all of the guitars that came out a few years ago. I'll look and see if they still have the catalog articles on site and look that up. For some reason, all of this happen to remind me of that.

Edit: It was called the Blacktop series. I thought that was an interesting idea with that Jazz.

Humbuckings are interesting pups for sure. I thought it was a great pup on the Pawn Shop Mustang.

That was a cool bass, too. 8)

I don't know what made me think of the Blacktop Jazz. I was trying to see if there were any around on the used market, but I didn't find anything. I was curious to see what they'd go for. I imagine it wouldn't sound like a Jazz, yet totally play like one with the neck and body. Two P Bass pick ups instead of one, too. I'll bet that would be pretty beefy sounding.

Yeah, it would sound close to a Gibson EB3L, I would think. I guess.

I think Mel Schacher from Grand Funk Railroad (pretty sure it was him, but I'll try to look again) had a Jazz with a humbucker installed in it, and Jack Casady had a P Bass pickup installed by the neck, in front of the neck Jazz pickup of his Jazz Bass that he used before he got the modified Guild hollow-body. I suppose there might have been others out there that have modified Jazzes like that, too.

Mel Schacher from Grand Funk Railroad did have a Humbucking on his Jazz. When I saw Grand Funk in 1969, early in their first tour, that night they were using Hiwatt Amps, in place of their traditional West Amps.
