I snapped some pics as instructed and still need to take them and the bass into a Fender service center (SF Guitar Center) for them to assess. I am trying to find the time to do it, as I started working 6 ten hour days recently.

Here's text from their instruction sheet:

Quote:
Dear Valued FMIC Consumer,
FMIC authorizes the sale of necks or bodies only as direct replacements for original FMIC necks or bodies which are out of warranty or have been damaged beyond repair. To see if your instrument qualifies under FMIC’s criteria for neck and body replacement, please follow these simple steps.
First, take a series of photographs of your instrument. The photographs must show each of the following:

1. The entire front of the instrument.
2. The entire back of the instrument.
3. A close-up photograph of the head stock.
4. A close-up photograph of the serial number on the instrument. FMIC stringed instrument product serial numbers are located either on the front of headstock, the back of headstock, the back of neck, the heel of the neck, the neck plate or the bridge plate.
Next, bring your instrument along with the photographs of it to an Authorized FMIC Service Center for evaluation. A verification of the authenticity of the instrument as well as the need for either a replacement neck or body would be determined at that time. The Service Center would then send the photographs along with appropriate documentation to our technical support staff here at FMIC to seek approval for the sale of a replacement. If you need assistance locating an Authorized FMIC Service Center near you please contact our Consumer Relations Department at 480-596-7195 or via e-mail to consumerrelations@fender.com and a representative will be happy to assist you, or check out the Authorized Service Center listings on the “Support” page at http://www.fender.com.

FMIC RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REQUEST ADDITIONAL VERIFICATIONS
IN ORDER TO DETERMINE THAT YOUR INSTRUMENT IS A GENUINE FMIC PRODUCT.
If approved by FMIC, an authorization for the sale of a new neck or body would then be made, and the Service Center would place an order for the replacement part at that time. The new neck or body most closely matching the specific parts ordered would then be released and invoiced to the Service Center. Please understand that exact replacements may no longer be available, depending on the age and model of your instrument. You would then arrange between yourself and the Service Center the necessary repairs needed to complete your instrument. The original neck or body which is being replaced through this process remains your property and may be retained by you.

All costs involved, including the cost of the replacement part, shipping, insurance, and repairs are solely the responsibility of you, the consumer.

Yea, this is the bit that gets me a little… Just sell me a painted replacement body and take the damaged body. Wasn't that the point that Leo made with all the screw-on parts etc? Easy to replace if damaged...

I'm back with my AC. It's in the case when not around my neck.

Interchangeable parts goes back a ways.

Well I got sidetracked with getting a 50th Anniversary Jazz… but I should get myself together to deal with the AC. I just dread it cause I think after all the fuss they'll refuse my request for a new body. Here's a shot of the damage. It's more than a little crack. It goes almost all the way through and you can slightly wiggle the part if you try. Can it be glued. Sure. But what of the finish? ...the paint?

Damn Sam! That's fu*ked up. No, I don't think you'll get a new body from Fender either. No suggestions here, other than Fender will probably state the damage was caused by, as they say, "misuse by owner". I saw in your post previously, it fell from a table about 30 inches. I can understand now, it was a pretty severe impact for it. It's too bad that it happened though. Buy a new body for it.

He knows Fender isn't going to give him a free body. He has to send it in to a service center for evaluation to see if they'll even sell him a new body.

Yes, exactly. I am happy to buy a new AC body. I'm also happy to swap out all the hardware, no problem. I'm completely to blame and wouldn't dream of asking Fender to just give me a new body. I just want an official AC body (sherwood green) as a replacement. Even if I have to be on a waiting list for 6 months I'd be fine with it. It makes me a little angry to think that they'll likely turn me down, and for no reason that I can understand. But to be fair, I should give them a chance I guess.

I would hope they would give some consideration for a new body.

Tried taking it in to my local GC (which was listed on the Fender list as a certified Fender service center) and even called them the week prior to make sure, but now apparently no tech there is currently fender certified… so, waste of time there… but I found another guy local and am taking it to him tomorrow to look at it. He says he knows the Fender ways well and that once my instrument has been authenticated, there is a fair chance that they may sell me a new replacement body… correction, they may authorize the sale of a replacement body that the tech will reassemble. No direct sales to customers. He says that this whole process will probably take several months.

Got word the other day that they want to see every last nook and cranny of the body photographed. So the tech is going to take it all apart and photograph it and send them on. He says he spoke to a friend in the Fender parts dept. and that guy says they don't just have stacks of those bodies. They're made per order (which I was surprised to hear). But since they're still making these I should be able to slip my order in, once approved. But he says it's gonna take a while.

Wow, man! Sure would be quicker and easier (also much more expensive) to just buy another AC Jazz and sell the good parts off your broken one.
