I have to say 2 basses in my arsenal that are fast becoming favorites of mine are my Select Jazz Bass (Passive) & my recently acquired ( back in March of this year)
Vintage Hot Rod 70's Jazz Bass,.... They're so well made IMO,... & they feel, play & sound great !! ..... The Current American Deluxe Jazz Bass is also a nice Bass. ......

The Jazz Select gets a lot of mentions. The awkward part is that I am in Oz and I have not seen a lot of Selects.

I had better get to a decent shop and just run through them all.

I have decided to buy two American Standard basses - one new and one second hand (2012).

After looking at Deluxe basses, Vintage basses etc. the American Standard is what I need.

The second hand bass will be used as a project - learn to upgrade the pups etc.

Wise choice.

Thank you to all who provided some suggestions. I had an interesting two weeks with two second hand buys for the price of a new.

1. American Standard Jazz (2012, Mystic Red): when snooping around for a Jazz Deluxe, I came across a shop with a second hand 2012 American Standard Jazz. Having never tried an American Std (and the shop was in another part of Australia to me), I bought it. I am blown away by the bass - it is amazing. Simple but sleek - perfect for what I want. I know people here are seasoned players of these so my comments probably seem silly.

2. American Deluxe Jazz (2011, Wine Red): this was pure indulgence. I ended up in an out-of-the way city in Australia this week. I checked online out of curiosity and there was someone selling a Jazz Deluxe in Wine Red. The significance of this is the colour - I am addicted to this colour but it is no longer available. I bought it because I sensed I would never see it again. I am actually not a fan of Deluxe Jazzes now..........but..........oh well......

A good two weeks!

Wine Red lasted only 2 years; it was replaced by White Blonde in 2013.

Yes. Pretty much the day I decided to press "buy" on getting one, they were delisted.

I was gutted, until I saw it last week. Wine Red is a seriously beautiful colour.

It makes people's jaw drop.

Sounds like you did good Edelstone. Nice basses. I like the idea of getting 2 basses for thr price of one new one. Nothing wrong with that!
