does wiring a JB in series approach the sound to a Precision? I don't know 'cause I haven't got a Precision.

A J doesn't sound like a P but a J can have a really good fat sound that can be just as sweet as a P

Put both volumes on full then turn back the bridge pickup about 1/4 inch or untill you hear the sound get a little louder and fatten up- there you go.

Is that what you are talking about?

I wouldn't mess with wiring the pickups in series or paralell on a J-- but that's just me- whatever floats your boat though. Lots of guys on here will say that when you change anything on a stock bass- it decreases the collectability/ value of the guitar-- which is true.... unfortunately. But there are certain stipulations to that- like = who cares if you change something on a Squire? Also the pickups in a J when turned up all the way I'm thinking they are in series anyway or paralell whatever - I don't bother to much about electronics- to me it's a pain. I just play the darn things. Have a great day! :D

I have S1 switches on both my Jazz basses, and pretty much always run them in series... Series in a Jazz increases lows, mids, and signal strength - and sort of approaches a P Bass sound, but not quite: it adds P Bass like thump, but still retains a bit of Jazz clarity in a mix...

Do you want it to sound like a Precision or were you just wondering what in-series sounds like on a Jazz?

I know this is resurrecting an old post but wanted to express my opinion here. Though the pickups are different and their location also from a P pickup (which is actually 2 pickups wired in series) you will get a reasonably similar sound of a P bass as the output will be greater and a fatter tone with slight subdued highs like a P. To me a Jazz with S-1 pickup switching my choice of the two P or J. Don't get me wrong I have had P basses and love the big tone but the Jazz with S-1 is more versatile.
