Hi ,
I've got a little problem. I saw a Jazz Bass some days ago on the Internet ... for 400 bugs. And now I wonder if it is an original Fender Jazz Bass or a fake. The seller wrote, that the bass was built in November 1998 in Corona, USA. My problem is, that I don't understand the system of the Serial Numbers, maybe there's somebody out there who could help me. The number is E33880. The Bass is Vintage White with rosewood fretboard and white Pickguard.
Thanks in advance
LeMaxx

400 for a well built good sounding bass with no issues is a good deal as far as I know, I've got that much and more in the basses I have built.

Now that I look at that bass - I'm thinking it may be an 83 boner bass in really good condition- I wish more people were on the forums - but it seems it's deserted here because of Summer. It's slow like ketchup.

Everything I can see from the lone photo here is legit. Instrument is worth twice that in Europe though. It might be stolen. Caution here.

And yes, export serials are different and will NOT decode on the site here or any of the usual methods online. They do that on purpose to lock the instrument out of FMIC service in North America. This is a practice adopted by Leo Fender. It works, but makes authenticating export instruments more complicated.
