Hi All
I am a prowd owner of 2005 Fender USA Jazz Bass Deluxe.
For almost 2 years, I have some odd disconnections while playing - The guitar stops sending signals to the amp.
At first I found that taking the PL plug out and putting it back in makes it play again.
I changed cables - it was not the problem.
I took it to the local Fender lab. They replaced the batteries, checked all connections and wires and it was ok. It happened again.
I thought it was a jack problem, it was replaced, and problem exists.
Today while happening, I disconnected one battery and connected it again - the signal came back to life. Taking the plug out and in makes the same - it reconnects the power. All in all, I think it is something electric, maybe a component in the preamp.
I will be happy if you could share your thought with me or if anyone ran into same problem and solved it. Many thanks.

Look you have a intermittent connexion / solder on your preamp or pickups or switch , or volume / tone .

I can't understand why a qualified tech ( is he ? ) did not find it , unless you don't want leave the bass the time he need . Because this need time .

Are you sure it is not your amp ? Pedal board ? or .......

You should test with other amp if you don't do yet

I totaly agree.
I was thinking of resoldering all of the electrical connections of the guitar, like you said - volume/tone controls, pickups, battery, everyting that has to do with connection/solder.
Making reconnection of the battery makes me assume it is the guitar, not the amp.
Also, I think it happened once with another amp.
I prefer resoldering everyting by myself - I have a gentle soldering iron, but more than that as you said - it takes time to resolve, I I can't stay without my guitar since I have only this one. Would you say that I should resolder only the wiring, not the electrical components on the preamp? Do you have a suggestion on what cold solder to look for? Thanks.

I experienced a similar thing with my Jaco Fretless Jazz Bass,... 3 yrs after I bought it, I noticed the Bridge pickup would go on & off while playing,.... thinking there was an issue with the volume pot ( because all the connections looked good) I brought it back to the dealer I bought if from so that they could check it out,... they couldn't find anything wrong with it ...... then about a month later the same thing started happening again so I went back with the bass to the music store & this time we had success,.... I had a broken wire inside the Bridge pick up,.. the tech decided to just replace the pick up because the Bass was still under Fender Warranty,..... I haven't had a problem since,.... I guess what I'm saying is check the pick ups..... :)

Thanks for the advice, I'd rather check the pickups, or any other electrical connection that has wiring or soldering on them. Your guitar still had sound of one pickup, I have 2 of them and the signal goes completely off untill I reconnect the power. I just wonder whether should I take it to Fender's tech or try to figure it myself, since it's an hour drive each way, and I should put the guitar for a week or two.
Any other member ran to disconnection problems and could share his experience?

It's a job for a qualified tech .

It could be a transistor or integrated circuit need to be replaced . When you disconnect battery and it work , it look like you do a reset .
But could be many other thing .

The time you loose to look how to fix it , if guitar was on the guitar tech hands, he may find what wrong .

I will take your advice. Will take it to the lab to resolve.
I will update later on on the solution.

Yes taking it to a qualified Tech who repairs guitars on a daily basis is the best way to go......

I took it to a guitar tech.
The problem occured by chance as I arrived there.
He opened the preamp plate and searched for the interminnet connection.
He found it! :D
It was a mechanical connection of two white wires under heatshrink, without been soldered.
The tech soldered it, put the heatshrink on, and problem solved at once! :D
Thank you all for your input, the solution was exactly as adviced here - the Tech!
And beyond that - how does a 1,700$ guitar goes off factory like that?
I would like to have an explanation by a Fender person.

No. The first tech is the local dealer's tech lab (2 years ago).
Last week I took it to a private tech, but the problem did not occur and thus could not be found,
unless I would put the guitar for a week or two for further inspection as mentioned above.
I am much calm now about it, and having a gig tonight, I will verify it is gone.
I wonder if this interminnet connection made something to the sound of the bass while not giving 100% contact.

Even the best of us make mistakes from time to time. Nobody is perfect. Fender is not perfect. Far from it. They've made some blunders. Sometimes some royal blunders. When you consider how many guitars and basses Fender sells each year I think it's extraordinary there are not more quality control issues than there are. I think they are doing an amazing job. Also, they have proven to be up to the task of making it right if problems do arise. Very glad you got your issue sorted out. My luck always seems to run in another direction. I never seem to have any issues whatsoever with Fender instruments but I have extremely bad luck with Gibsons. So much so that I have pretty much resolved to never own another one.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

The visit at the tech solved it once and for all.
It was definitly a bad solder under the shrink that was fixed by the tech.
Gear works excellent, I am very happy!
