First Of All Hello Everybody!!!
I've been playing bass for around 5 years now, I'm British, and I'm currently 16!!

I currently use two main Ibanez basses for gigging and sessioning around my area, I use a:

SR-1000EFM Prestige 4 string
SR-905 5 string

I'm also currently using Warwick stacks as my amp choice!!

I've got a new American Jazz Bass Delux on its way from Fender in America at the moment.

I was wondering if the fender community here could give me some constructive advice on my gear choice if they wanted, but more important could give me their views on whether to buy a Marcus Miller signature Jazz Bass for slapping on, as I am aiming for the distant future to have at least one bass setup for slapping, fretless 5 string and 4 string maybe 6 and an upright, to cover all the playing styles I could be needed for.

Some advice and good portable combos which would be suitable for gigging and practicing with when the stacks aren’t suitable.

Thanks
xxx

Your Jazz bass deluxe will be a fine bass for slapping. The MM is a fine bass but I don't think you could justify having one just for slap when your Deluxe will be just as good.

Not that you have to justify it haha.

That said the MM does have a lot of stuff going on inside with it's preamp and such.

Check out the Genz Benz Shuttle head and cabs, as well as the Gallien Kruger combo ranges. Markbass also make some nice portable, and powerful head/cab models.

Yeah thanks!!!
The Delux does play beautifully well, I got it with the maple neck and rosewood finer board. I spent two days down in this music centre going through all the ones they had , and it was that which really suited my needs and requiments for the bass!!

I was thinking the Marcus Miller signiture 4 string because it has the mini toggle between passive and active, which could be usuful for keeping the open mind to playing multiple styles ....

I have used Mark bass quite abit and I like how portable their amps are, didn't favour the heads as much though for some reason didn't really suit me, I'm not sure why. Much prefer the good old fashioned solid states with good sized EQ.

Check out the Gallien Kruegers then, I'm tempted to pull the trigger on one of these myself. :)

In all honestly, passive/active is a great thing to have at your fingertips but there no reason why you couldn't mod your AD to have one. I find great pleasure in personalising my instruments with mods that reflect my needs and playing style. It's a common mod for what I've heard - but if you've got the dough then what the hell haha, no harm in another bass eh?

I hope some day to have an upright too, I already have a fretless and although it's fun, I'm a little bored of it. That said an Upright will be a completely new challenge for me. I take it you can play upright already?

I agree with all that Ally had said, he's pretty good with suggestions/advice. I myself had gotten advice from him :)

As far as combo goes, depends on what you're looking for, cuz certainly Trace Elliot combo would be cheaper there in the UK as opposed to here in the US. I love the Trace - I had a 350w combo, regret selling it btw. Any Fender combo would be a good choice. If possible, Carvin makes excellent combos for basses too. Price range will differ from the Queen's money to US$ too. What kind of wattage are you looking for? I see you have a stack already. Any European made amps would be cheaper for you there in the UK. In the US the US made combos are Peavey, Fender (IIRC US made), and a lot of made in China stuff. One thing if it's only for practice, get some Ibanez SoundWave - 20w should do and can plug headphones on.

Good luck.
