Just bought this 2005 USA Jazz Bass Deluxe. I got (I believe I got) a very good deal. I have not seen another like this, so just want to double check everything is legit!

The serial number certainly dictates it's a Deluxe 2005 model. The 'mid' dial was not working correctly so I checked it out and fixed it but it only has two soldered connections on it (just two prongs no three) so that got me thinking...

Headstock - The decal appears to be a shiny mirror effect. I have not seen one like this before. I don't actually like it much to be honest! Is this real/original?

The body is some kind of amber (could be butterscotch?). I have not seen another one like this.

Where the neck joins the body, there appears to be some gappage and it does not look particularly well made to be honest. The pickups say "SCN" at the bottom right of each one.

The neck inlays are a weird 'oily' effect that I am not that fond of either.

It takes two 12v batteries, if one of the batteries starts to go, what are the symptoms?

Finally the neck pickup seems to be a reasonable amount louder than the bridge pickup. Is this normal?

All that said, it plays well!!

Thanks

Here is a 2005 you can compare yours to while you are waiting for answers from active bass aficionados.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2005-Fender-Jaz ... 3f282fd1d8

To me, the decal and inlays look the same as on yours.

I can't tell if the pups have a SCN on them or not. SCN stands for Samarium Cobalt Noiseless, which Fender does use, but I couldn't say if they are original equipment on your bass or not.

I assume you mean 9V batteries. The two you have in that bass are two reasons I play passive basses. Got so paranoid that I would change batts before every gig, and ended up with a bag full of partially used batts....lol.

Stick around, someone with better knowledge will respond.

Are you sure it is a 2005 ? and a Deluxe ? Serial number please ;

In the 2005 Fender Frontline page 163 ;

Deluxe Jazz Bass have truss rod adjustment nut on the Peg head , not yours
Pickup are Noiseless write on
Decal is not the same
Peg head look bigger ( or it is your photo ? )

, Your neck is a Vintage type , truss rod nut at the body

That was what I thought until I noticed his post said made in USA, so I refined my search. The MIM bass is as you describe.

Glad you found a second example, one that specified the pups.

You are right I describe the Deluxe Series . I did not know it is MIM . Sorry .

Now I found the AmericanDeluxe series in 2005 Frontline page 152 -153 same bass as Logicfender.

Thank's for your information

Thanks everyone. I have found an online pricelist for 2005 jazz deluxe models and I believe it to be the Amber colour with the original tort pickguard which would be correct. Those decals certainly look the same as per the first post. I guess all is good ;-)

Thanks

The " oily " effect inlays are actually a pearl effect inlay. I don't know if they are actually mother of pearl or abalone, but I like the look of those inlays, its too bad that you don't.

Neck pickups will be louder than bridge pickups because the strings have a wider excursion over the neck pickup. You have to balance the pickup heights to counter this effect.

The batteries are 9 volts each and the symptoms of dying batteries are a distorted sound followed by silence. If your bass is wired properly it should cut off any battery use when the cord is unplugged. Batteries can last for over a year or longer depending on how much you play the bass.

The decal on the head stock is an original Fender foil decal. Foil decals are not being reproduced like the vintage decals. There is no money in faking a foil decal.

I hope that you have fun with your bass.
