I had a Sunn Concert Bass with the 2 15 inch speakers that were mounted facing the rear before these. I still miss that set up.

I got the Hartke stuff because I am older now, and don't want to lift heavy equipment. The 2x10 cabinet is something like 35 pounds to carry only.

I hear ya, my cab is a KMD cab, that thing weighs 85lbs, I know what u mean about the heavy cab. I really like the head. My model is discontinued now - Transient Attack 5000.

As I approach 50, weight is really important to me. Both on my cabinets, and myself....

Well if it's as bad as I feel it @ 35, I'm not looking forward to it

If weight is an issue, the Epifani cabs are real light as are the Markbass stuff combos and cabs. They're just very pricey. GC had a Fourth of July sale on a Markbass 4x10 for ~$7-800 and they had a 2 x 10 for $450 and this weighs only ~25lbs for I think 400watts. GC was selling the Markbass 1 x15 or was it a 12" for ~$500.00 on sale. I ended up buying the markbass 1x12 combo which puts out 500 watts, weighs ~30 lbs, is the size of a milk crate, and altogether with tax and all it was $695 which is a really good deal and why I bought (read went into debt with the GC card) it. Normally this sell for $900 + tax. I've been drooling over the Markbass stuff since they came out about 2 yrs ago, and finally bought the combo since the price was just too good to pass up.

For small club gigs I love the Hartke Kickback 12 with the aluminium cone speaker, it's small and easy to transport, but what I love most is the sound. It has a VERY tight, clear, clean and punchy sound, and as a result works better as a stage amp than many amps with twice the power. The eq section is nice and sounds good at almost any setting (the mark of a good amp, any amp that only sound good at one specific setting is crap).
Another benefit is that it will work great for gigs where the stage can't be too loud, but I've also used it on open outdoor stages in front of 3,000 people (although in that case the drummer will need to hear the bass from a drum monitor). If you really need earth shaking lows from from your amp then this isn't the amp for you (but that's supposed to be the P.A.'s job).
Not everyone will like it but at least give it a listen with an open mind.

Look for a used amp in good condition. I went to my local music store and bought a 200 watt peavey with a 15 inch speaker for $250. I can' turn the volume past 2 without making my house shake.
