After a couple failed attempts to find a good vintage bass ('75 with a dip in the neck, '70 very slightly dipped neck with a maxed out truss rod), I'm back to considering a NOS Custom Shop.

Here are the two I'm considering:

NEW 64 NOS CS for $2500 (I'm a good customer at this online shop)

USED 60 NOS for $1950 (has a very small mark in this side which would only encourage me to really use it!)

I primarily enjoy playing 70's funk/soul/disco. I'm not sure how the tone would compare between the two, but I know I'd end up putting flats on whatever I purchase.

I'm assuming the 60 NOS would probably never be worth a whole lot less than the 1900 dollar mark which is comforting if I ever decide to sell it. Is that a correct assumption?

Any opinions would be helpful.

Thanks in advance!

I paid $2500 for my FCS60RI last August and feel really good about it, so the price sounds pretty good, and maybe you can even get that down.

The 60 I have has HUGE growl, more than any other jazz I own, or have ever owned for that matter. I love it. It is outstanding for classic rock. It came out of the box with two very small flaws: the bridge knob set had to be adjusted to keep them from turning together, and there was a small metal chip stuck in the finish on the back of the neck. While surprising from FCS, it has in no way affected my enjoyment from this tone monster.

I don't do funk or disco, so I have no opinion, but I would say this is NOT a bass I would buy for classic soul/Motown. That needs a precision, imo, and to put flats on this jazz would ruin its unique sound. (and I love flats, just saying)

Have you Concidered getting the Vintage Hot Rod 60's P-Bass or Vintage Hot Rod 70's Jazz Bass? (both have P/J set up) ....... I think either one would be perfect for the music you're playing.
I have a Candy Apple Red Vintage Hot Rod 70's Jazz Bass (I bought it 2 months ago) &
I can't stop playing it,.... it has a nice vintage vibe & feel & is perfect for classic rock or classic Funk, ..... the Vintage Hot Rod 70's Jazz Bass has a 63 split coil P Bass pick up & a 74 single coil Jazz Bass Pick up,.... both basses are Passive & have the Fender version of the BadassII bridge,..... Fender has modded the Bridge Saddles a bit & I have to say I really like this bridge,... I'd like to see Fender sell it as a replacement bridge at some point,..... anyway a couple of suggestions that I think would work out for you. :)
