There are a couple 2008 master built basses on eBay for $3100. I don't know much about master built custom shop basses, but I would have to assume they were very expensive to buy new.

Do you think 3100 is a worth the price, and does it really effect the value to have a signed COA from Reggie Hamilton?

If only they weren't relic'd.....

I don't think they are worth it.

That's just my opinion.

I would invest in an actual vintage Fender bass for that kind of money.

That's what I'm thinking - but I recently purchased a nice looking all original 75 (4 bolt) Jazz bass on eBay for about 2900, and when I got it the neck had a dip. Fortunately I was able to return it. I just don't want to go through that again.

However with the Master Built, although it may not be worth it for us, I doubt it would ever lose value. I can only imagine what the damn thing cost new.

Well if value matters what BC said was good advice. The vintage one has a better chance of appreciating than the Custom Shop MB.

Depending on the vintage it could be quite a bit more lucrative to buy the real deal. Yes CSMB's are rare and expensive but all CS stuff goes way down in value when sold as used and never up so far as I've ever seen. It isn't so much what the CSMB's cost new, but how much value they lose when sold used.

Meanwhile the real 1969-1972 Jazz Basses in original collector class shape have appreciated 1000% at least. Some copies did way better than 1000%. I do not see that ever happening, at least in my lifetime, with any CS bass EVER made...even the MB ones.
