Hello! I have a black and white Fender Jazz Bass Made in USA American Traditional, all of that is on the neck but no serial number anywhere. Somebody said that there is a serial number on the plate that holds the neck, check but no luck. I didn't check on the body below the neck, I saw that there are also same marks there on the pictures people posted on other forums. So my question is, can it be genuine even without all of these numbers, can the serial number and a proof of genuine Fender be only a number on the body below the neck? Thanks!

Really I don't even care if it is genuine or not, it is a pretty good guitar and I like it :D I changed the pots and somebody made a mess in wiring, it wasn't of Jazz Bass, it was clear that somebody have soldered it differently.

I am assuming that this is the same bass you posted about back in 2010, correct?

A couple points. First, there is a saying on this forum that I like "No Serial Number = No Sale". Anytime a serial number is missing it raises a red flag that is hard to recover from.

As the wiring was messed with and the fact you changed the pots, it is not original, regardless.

The American Traditional, I thought, was a MIM bass. But I have been told if it has American in the name, it has to be MIA. So I am not the person to respond to that point as I have questioned it before. Others here will have much more knowledge about this series, I only know what I found on the web.

Pictures would be a great help. Not sure where the serial number should be on this bass, but if it is not on the front or back of the headstock, or on the neck plate, it doesn't have one - and that is not good.

You can have a legitimate body and a counterfeit neck, or the other way around. Finding marks that authenticate the body do not include the neck. That has to stand on its own. Removing the neck may give you the details you need for both pieces.

The fact you like it, and have had it several years, is great. Just keep enjoying it.

The American Traditional series was a low price series. Made in America, but using Mexican spec parts. They weren't around very long, but I don't have the exact details.

They should have a serial number on the headstock. So the OP's guitar could be a fake.
The "American Traditional" decal was in the usual Contour Body decals location.
