Hi all,
I have never used a quick release strap lock but have been looking at the Fender and the Schaller, anyone used them or have comments, many thanks.

I bought a set of original straplocks in 1985 and an still using them 29 years later on my Precision. I'm using $4 Fender Strap Blocks on my Jazz, and I like them. If Fender's "F" straplocks turn you on, buy a set and use them.

My new Dimension came with strap locks on it, so I ordered a set for my precision. I found the best price at Musicians Friends. I don't worry as much about my strap coming loose.

I like the Ernie Ball locks and have them on several basses. Going by the number of basses I have bought that had the buttons from locks on them, I would say Schaller is the most popular. Once you insure you have a positive lock with the Ernie Ball product, the bass isn't going anywhere, so I will continue to use them - but you do need to give them a tug and make sure you have a positive lock.

I use Schaller on nearly all basses and guitars, too, and really like them, because I've never seen a brocken Schaller straplock. :D :D

Schaller- never lost a bass once with them on it. Wood glue the screws into the body. Fill the threads flush about half way up with glue---They will still come out when you want to unscrew them- the wood glue acts like locktight- don't tighten the screw gorilla hard- just till it stops turning and snug- I did it that way on over 30 basses

The only problem I have ever encountered with Schaller strap locks is the softness of the buttons. They are nickel plated brass. It takes a good 7 or 8 years of heavy off/on use to develop but the buttons will wear and slightly deform over time. The shoulder on the outside edge of the groove wears and the groove becomes wedge shaped. With enough wear the lock can actually fail to keep the strap secure. If I could find the buttons sold separately I would buy some but in reality the cost of a new set of locks is not really prohibitive if they last 8 years of heavy use. As a stopgap measure I will simply rotate the button 180 degrees to aid security until I buy a new set of locks. I've done that twice in the past 15 years or so. Not a big expense in the long run.

The Schaller strap lock buttons are availible seperatly from ebay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-PAIR-Genuin ... 5668495dc9
This is UK but I would think they are availible in the US. The link is for black but other finishes are there.
I started this topic and thanks to everyones advice I fitted them on all my guitars and am very pleased, not dropped any guitars yet

Been using Dunlop's for 30+ years. Never had an issue.

Hi, I have been using the Fender 'F' locks for about four years on my gigging bass. Works well for me.

The only problem I have is the 'F' button, no matter how tight, would sometimes loosen and unscrew. I fixed by adding a small lock washer.

I think I'll try the wood glue method.
