Last year my sister and BiL bought the nephew a Rogue 200 bass because he wanted to learn to play like uncle. Well, that went down in flames so they gave me the bass. I had an old custom made jazz pup lying about and threw that in the bridge and got a used set of DiMarzios off eBay for fifty beans. The action on these things actually get pretty low, the bridge is pretty solid and the but and tuners are what you'd expect from a $130.00 bass. The original pips weren't the worst thing ever, but now the thing sounds really damn fine. Not a $10,000.00 Alembic mind you, but every bit as nice as an Ibanez or Yamaha in the 300 dollar price range. I'm going to use it when I go play with friends. I'm actually fairly impressed. Will it take the place of my Fender or Squire, no. But it just made my Yamaha into something I don't much care to play again.

I was playing the USA GL Jazz today, with the D'Addario ETB92 Nylon Tapewounds on board, and it played great.

From what I've seen with the previous post, last year, it was an American Standard you had. How would you compare those two, if you remember? I know they discontinued the Standards not a lot of time after that.

You know Paul, they're pretty similar, at least to me. I'm not noticing much differences between the Medium Jumbo frets, and the Narrow Tall frets. The tuning keys don't seem to be much different either. I like the V pups on the on the Am. Pro., but I'm not noticing too much, or that much of a difference from the CS60's on the Am. Std. The Slim C neck feels good. But here again, I never had problem with the Am. Std. necks. Some of it is hard to tell, because of playing through the Ampeg. These two Fenders I have now, are the first I've run through a tube Ampeg.

Yeah, this is your first all tube Ampeg, isn't it? I suppose the major change between the two basses is the price increase, isn't it? Wasn't it like a couple hundred dollars more?

Yes, it's the first Ampeg tube head I ever owned. The good Lord knows I moved enough of them in the past for others. The Am. Std. was priced $150., to $200. less, something like that. Then they added the extra $50.00 for the Rosewood boards, over the Maple boards on the Am. Pro. series.
The pups are different, the frets, and the tuners. Other than that, and the price,.......... Am. Std., Am. Pro., the same difference as my dad always said.
A bit ironic, my Black bass has a Maple board, and my Olympic White has a Rosewood board.

That kind of reminds me of those two dudes on the original "Star Trek," with the black and white faces, but the sides were different from each other.

Frank Gorshin as one of the B&W guys in Star Trek. He was The Riddler on the original Batman TV show. I like having one Maple, and one Rosewood.

I remember that guy. I used to watch the 60's "Batman" when I was a little kid. Of course, that would have been in syndication at that point, since that was the early to mid 70's. Having the two different tone woods does give you some options.

You maybe had an advantage over me watching Batman in the mid 70's. You probably had a color TV. Only saw it on B&W TV's.
I'm not sure how much tone difference there really is with different woods on the boards.

We had colored TVs, but a few, smaller black and white ones here and there over the years. My brother had a black and white TV in his garage in the mid 90's that still worked, with the rabbit ears. We use to hang out there during a lunch break when we worked for my dad's lawn service and watch "Jerry Springer" and crap like that and drink beer. :P Now, unless you have some sort of digital converter, you can't use those old TVs anymore.

From what I've understood with the different woods, is usually rosewood has a darker sound, and maple a brighter sound, but I suppose that's speculative to the player.
