Yeah, I'll bet they were. John Paul Jones had two of them in Led Zeppelin, and that seemed to have kept up with the rest of the band.

Along with Larry Taylor of Canned Heat, and Mark Andies of Spirit. And others as well.

John Paul Jones' caught on fire (the preamp part,) and he had to replace it with a Gallien-Krueger GMT 600B amplifier, during the 1977 tour, with the Acoustic powered cab. I suppose he did run the hell out of it for many years, though.

A part like that will only last for so long, being pushed at those levels.

That's true. They must have a lot of wear and tear on them. Speaking of those Acoustic amps, I was curious about what kind of amp Paul McCartney was using when he was in Wings, and although I didn't confirm this yet, I read he used those, as well. I know now a days he uses Mesa Boogie and Ashdown, as well as Vox, which I think are regulated for when he plays guitar. I'm not sure if he's still running his bass through those, although I did read he was doing that going into the Mesa Boogie cabs, and using a Mesa Boogie head for the low end, like some sort of bi-amp kind of deal. I'll have to try to confirm that, as well.

I really don't know what he was using.

Well, whatever it was, at least at that point he could hear himself onstage, since PA had advanced, and he wasn't mobbed by screaming girls, like during Beatlemania. :P I didn't get around to finding out for sure, since I had other crap going on today, and I forgot about it.

They sure were right up there with all the other premium amps at that time.

That they did. There are still some great amps around these days, and some of those workhorses are still running.

So I hear. Some may have not been worked as hard as others. They were very well built.

Well, if they managed to last at least 50 years or so, I'd say they certainly were.

They didn't seem that old, until you said 50 years or so.

Yeah, the 60's were a long time ago, even though it doesn't seem like it to me, since I was born right in the next decade, but hell, I'm pushing 50. Now, it seems like a lot of those musicians from that era are starting to drop off. It's like if they are still playing, you better go see them before you don't get a chance to ever again. :(

I can safely say a good number of the headliners I met, backstage or wherever, are passing on.
