I'll probably just go with some D'Addario flats, since they actually have those at AMS. I'll get them quick, and I don't have to deal with some Mickey Mouse BS, trying to hunt down online any Rotosounds these days. I know Guitar Center and it's various affiliates carry them, and Amazon.com doe, but I'd rather give AMS my business, even if it means changing the brand. Maybe it might do some good for a change, anyway. Sans my preference to flats, the D'Addario rounds on the bass actually have a nice feel to them for being rounds.

I've used D'Addario Chrome Flats on a Standard Fretless, and loved them. That was before I tried the ETB92 Nylons.

Actually, I'm going to have to say nay on the D'Addarios, since my girlfriend doesn't like them, and she plays as well. so we have to agree with that sort of thing. It's not a big deal to me, either way. I just thought it would be convenient, since it was from AMS. Oddly enough, they're also more expensive than the Rotosounds, which I thought was strange, since D'Addarios are usually the cheaper strings, but maybe that's for rounds.

They used to use that brand when they did the free strings on your instrument thing back in the day at music shops, to probably try to pull in new customers, or at least did that in Florida. I used to bring in a Spanish nylon string guitar I had, so I wouldn't have to buy strings for it. :P

Speaking of strings, I finally looked at the Ibanez CT series bass that came back from being repaired, and sitting in a gig bag, and saw they put on either GHS or Rotosound strings on it, set it up, and polished it (did a good job, too.) I think it's one or the other, since that's the two brands that have the red silk ends on them. I'm leaning towards GHS, since that is probably a more common brand to use around than Rotosound, especially for work like that. It also looks like it has a darker red to it than the Rotosounds do, so I'll looked that up to confirm that. I've used GHS strings, but that was back in the 90's when I did last. Maybe I'll give them a try again, as well.

You have to like the strings you're using. My self, I wasn't using D'Addario, La Bella would be my choice.

AMS has the LaBella strings, but I think the only short scale ones are the ones for a Hofner or violin style bass, which means they're actually medium scale. I'll double check that, to be sure, though. I imagine those would probably be too long, wouldn't they?

Hofner strings are usually shorts, they just have a standard size guitar winding end to go through the tunning pegs.

That's a cool bass. 8) So, I see it's still working out for you, then?

It's working fine. This 4003 has turned out to be a very comfortable player. Better than any other I've had.

I have to say, I think you've actually held on to this one the longest that I've known you, and you had any. Maybe you actually found the right one worth keeping.

I think I may have hung on to a Ruby 4003 for close to about the time, that I now have the Jetglow for. This Jetglow definitely plays, and sounds better than the Ruby did.

Was the ruby a special edition finish? I don't remember seeing too many, if any of those around the usual places. I know certain stores will have special finishes made for them.

The Ruby wasn't a special edition, but it wasn't run to often. The Ruby finish took a lot of man hours to accomplish. So they discontinued it. It was a Ruby finish, with a gold flake. It looks like a 60's metal flake paint on a car.

That sounded like a cool finish, especially with the flake in it. I wonder how many of those they actually put out?

I don't know, but apparently the man hours really put the kibosh on it.
