They've been really sneaky with that, too. This year's NAMM had quite a few things thrown at us. :P

They really do try to get players to get to the point of, "Oh. I have to have that."

At least they've been giving the bassist their due. I remember not that long ago there weren't a hell of a lot of options, especially amp wise, that we had.

yes, I remember that time of little options for bass amps. And now there are a good number of bass amps to choose from. it's great.

Yeah, I'd say even almost comparable to the guitar amps out there. There's a ton of stuff in Europe that you probably don't see here, or very limited, too. I found this company yesterday that's Italian. It's not Markbass, either. I don't think they are available in the US, yet. I couldn't seem to find any US dealers or distributors. Maybe soon in the future, I'm sure.

In the 60's there were a good number of Italian guitar / bass companies that made some superior gear. EKO was one of them.

Yeah, they were the top dog, with that, until the Japanese manufacturers started becoming prevalent, probably. From what I've read, EKO did a lot of OEM stuff, too. Vox guitars were made by them.

EKO was a somewhat of a prominent guitar / bass builder. EKO was the equal to Danelectro that built the Coral brand. I think Silvertone was a Vox product.

Then you had organ companies buy brands in the US, like Baldwin did with Gretsch. They even made their own amps, too. Willie Nelson uses them to this day.

Gibson had their own amps also. Ric's as well.

I've actually played through a Gibson amp. It was a 400 watt bass stack they had in the late 80's, and the local music shop had one in stock. It was from the same people that did that Road amps, or eventually Thunderfunk. I'm not sure if they were Acoustic, or something like that before all of that. The guy that designed them. I have to read up on that again. I just remember it being a really nice rig, but it was too expensive for me at the time to buy it.

The few Gibson amps I saw were decent.

I've read about pretty good things about them, as well.

Back then, it isn't that unusual for guitar companies to turnout their own name amps.

True, although a lot of them were made by companies like Valco, and things like that. I'm not sure about the Gibson ones, though.

That's very true, but the main thing was, they had the company name on it to go with their guitars.
