Jazz Bassists,

I am the proud owner of an American Deluxe Jazz Bass V in Wine Transparent

I have noticed recently on the fender website that you can no longer view the American Deluxe Jazz Bass / Jazz Bass V in the Wine Transparent finish.

Also on a lot of UK guitar store websites its noted as Not Available, one of the possible reasons given as the model is discontinued...

Please could someone in the know, advise us if this is true? I am just curious as i bought this guitar partly as an investment and im looking to make a decision on whether to sell or not and at what price etc...

Thanks in Advance,

Regards,

Steve

Wine Transparent has been replaced by White Blonde as of 2014.

Close but no cigar,... White Blonde debuted in September 2013,....my local Music store has had a White Blond American Deluxe Jazz hanging in the store since early October 2013.
Red Wine Transparent was fazed out during the fall & early winter leading to 2014.
Red Wine Transparent was a nice color but you have to see the White Blonde American Deluxe Jazz bass with Tort pick guard, maple Fretboard & black pearl Block markers with black binding it's very striking, the catalogue picture are good but don't do it justice like seeing it for yourself..... :)

Is that the finish that looks like it's been whitewashed? I saw a Telecaster done like that with the wood grain showing through, and it was very striking.

+1

I have a near mint 72 Tele and it is drop dead gorgeous. Whoever came up with that idea was brilliant, adding a bit of color while letting the wood speak. I actually like it much more than the natural finishes.

I would attach a pic of it, but it just looks like a white/warm cream Tele. It's not till you hold it and look at it that it really grabs you. One of the best finishes ever.

So True that's exactly what grabbed me when I saw the White Blonde American Deluxe Jazz Bass & held it in my Hands then noticed you could see the wood grain under the color,......I'd also say it's one of Fender's best colors too.

Wow, that shows you how much I'm out of the loop as far as finishes go around here. I didn't even know they had a wine transparent finish. I never noticed that before.

Red Wine Transparent was like White Blonde in that it looked better in person than the Photo.......IMO .....you noticed the grain under the finish.

That seems to be the case on a lot of finishes. Internet pictures often don't do them justice because of lighting issues, etc. At least you get a general idea, though.

Could not agree more, photos do not do these kind of finishes justice.
When the light catches trhe wood at the right angle it lights up all the grain in the wood, looks spectacular!

With this information in mind and the fact its dicontinued.... would it be fair to assume an extra couple hunderd quid (£200 / $350) to be added to the asking price????

I'm not sure how many basses were produced in that color, but unless it is considered a rare color, the fact that it has been discontinued really has no bearing on the value. In the case of vintage basses, rare colors are worth a bit more, but common colors, discontinued or not, are all valued the same.
