Its not fake. That circular hole has to do with the CNC process of carving the bass body.

Every Fender Bass made since the 1980s has one except for custom shop basses and other reissued bass models.

I know its kind of a drag to have it there when you want to play your Jazz Bass without the pick guard, but you also have the wiring channel for the neck pickup, so just use the pick guard to cover it all up.

If you had a Mexican Fender, the serial number would start with MX. The Z stands for 2000, the 9 makes yours a 2009. It should be American made.

It's possible you have a parts bass made from a US neck and a Mexican body. Such a scenario is not that uncommon.

That looks like an American 5 string Jazz body, with a High Mass Bridge, and an adjustment notch a the heel of the neck.

It's a factory production guide hole . My 03 USA Precision has it and so do some of my other guitars. It's all good. I wouldn't think much of it. It doesn't effect the sound or value of the bass. Pretend like it's not there. :D

0h Shhhhhhhhhh! If anyone asks about this you are supposed to say the line, "It is a computer generated tone chamber adding resonance and richness by moving more air within the instrument's body!"

I hate the "CNC" hole. It is hit or miss on Fender's instruments and country of origin does not seem to dictate if the bass will have one.

Early "Road Worn'' basses 1st-2nd year usually don't have one, later years do. Early 60's Classic series don't but later versions do. My AVRI '62 Reissue does not but the American Standards do.

This tells me that Fender does not need this hole. They have made basses without them.

I like to have the option on a Jazz bass to remove the pick guard if I want to.

As for the original question, it is normal and it is used for "production purposes".
