what did you change to now that Fender decided to put out the garbage strings they are putting their name on? The old 8250s were nice strings nice even full tone....now they dont even fit on the saddles! and sound terrible! I am sure you all switched to something else on your jazz basses!
I just got a jazz bass with the old gray silks 8250m on it and I love the feel and sound.....anyone find a string that matches that? that sounds nice and full with bit or growl like they used to sound like?

Those were actually decent strings. They always worked well when going to the stores to check out basses. I'd take them off when I'd get home if I bought the bass. GC and SA have alot of customers handling the basses. No telling what kind of crud was on their hands. I'm not a germaphobe by far but some people hardly ever wash their hands.

I use rotosound round wound ( I know- you don't like those) and they do remind me of the 8250's except they have more tension to them- they're a little stiffer.

I won't mention that most people I talk and type to don't change their strings very often.

Tapewound do not exist in my world! nickel rounds if I want some warmth with a touch of bite and growl....flats for the more traditional sound.

You know rotosounds I think are the only string I havent tried yet. think I will order a pack nickel swing 66?

I was playing my 74AVRI last night...It has Fender flats on it....I was thinking to myself how they sounded pretty much just like chromes...all tinny and hollow sounding.

I am convinced d'addario is making their strings now....its too bad their flats and 8250s used to be so nice.

I wonder if saving a couple bucks a pack outsourcing their strings makes up for the amount of people who stopped buying them. I know I wouldnt have put the new flats on the bass if they didnt come with it.

Again that kind of concerns me that they would go with quantity and sacrifice quality.

That's cool if you are into a dull thud sound. I guess that works somewhere. Plus it saves money not having to change your strings. :D

If you like the taper wound stainless steel Fender 8250s you might want to take a look at RotoSound's PSD99s. They are hard to find and most music stores never carry them in their regular inventory so you'll prolly have to special order them and wait a few weeks for delivery. The PSD99s take the clarity and spank and liveliness of the Fender 8250s and step it up to a new level. These are probably the liveliest, spankiest, clearest, longest sustaining, most harmonically rich bass strings on the market. They cost a pretty penny but if that's what you like in your bass guitar tone they are well worth the nearly-double price tag.

PSD99

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

No dull thump if you use the right head.

Those look cool I love piano sound...I just wish they were nickel coated or alloy or something so they dont eat your frets...the 8250s were nickel coated roundcore.
speaking of more money infeld superalloy are really good strings...I have them on a couple basses....I really didnt want to make this bass another with the same strings..but I might have to!
the nice thing about the 8250s you got the piano even full sound....the warmth of nickel but they still had a little bite for slapping and some geddy sound.
I found an old set of 8250s on ebay...but are the lighter gauge. I like thicker stiffer strings...you can play faster!
