1982 Fender Jazz Bass. Apparently its extremely rare (only 5 made supposedly) although it is NOT custom OR Custom Shop.

Its been modified with Seymour Duncan pick-ups but apart from that, totally original.

So can any of you hardcore Fender-ites tell me the value of this please?

I don't think any shop would give you an honest answer. Whatever the market calls for...depends on the market. Also it's worth more to the person willing to shell out the cash. You can charge $4k for it, I would say forget it, some guy that collects Fender - 80s vintage - might say I'll wire you the money right now. I always know a good deal but never can figure out a pricey item for sale if it's a good/great or bad/horrible value. Good luck figuring it out.

I assume this is an American J bass, was it meant only for the International market? How do you know only 5 were made, any documentation to back this up? Whats the provanance, e.g. are you the original owner and do you have the orig receipt. Early 1980's Fenders unless they are vintage reissues in my opinion aren't particularly in high demand/value. A regular early 80s all original J bass Vintage Guitar price guide 08 book places a value of $1400-$2500 for international colors or rare colors--but I've seen the go for much less, more like $900-1200 on ebay. Since you have a mod it should fetch less. If you can prove its one of 5 then it may get you more, but the mod really hurts it.

Try contacting Fender with the serial # to see if they can help you out with the 1 in 5

I can't find any info. on that bass.

The bridge pick-up looks like it is in the 70's location in relation to the distance from the bridge. Though it could be the angle of the picture.
