Hi.
I have a Fender Jazz Bass and am not sure what year it was made.

It has a black body, maple fretboard with pearl slab inlays & a tortoise-shell pick guard.

It also originally had the metal bridge cover plate (I can tell from the screw holes either side of the bridge) but was removed by a previous owner.

I have searched online but cannot find an exact match. The style of the lettering on the headstock seems to indicate 1971 or 72 but I can't be sure.

Also, the plate which bolts the neck to the body has four screws as opposed to three, which seem to be more common for early 70's jazz basses.

If anyone can shed some light on this I would be most grateful.

Your bass appears to be a 1974-75 Fender Jazz bass that had its pickups changed to Dimarzio pickups and a pick guard change as well.

It is very hard to tell via the picture, but the controls, bridge and finish appear to be original.

A 4 bolt '75 Jazz bass with a maple neck and pearl inlay is a very nice bass!

What are you planning to do with it?

Look here ; everything to date your bass. This for Strat but work with any Fender guitar & bass

www.strat-central.com/70sstrats/index.htm

With serial number we are pretty close .

Look at the pots , date code will tell more. Easy to remove chrome control plate .

BC - You're spot on about the pickups but I didn't know about the pick guard. It's basically as it was when I bought it so I haven't made any alterations myself although I'm thinking about getting some new pickups

Certainly don't intend to part with it! Just going to keep on playing it & enjoying it!
Would be interested in getting a value on it though.

Without original pickups the bass lost half of it's value IMO . And without original pickgard...
