He traded it in already. I don't want to spoil his surprise, so I won't say what he got.

:? :? :? What ?? Hopefuly he did the right thing & traded it in for a Jaco Pastoius fretless Jazz Bass,...... or a Tony Franklin Fretless P-Bass :)

I must not have done the right thing. I kept it. The Am. Std. Series is to my liking of any Fender Series. There maybe as good, or better Fender Series, I just like the Am. Std. Series. It just feels Right On.

The American Standard is a Good line of Basses & guitars,...& the CS60's & High Mass Vintage Bridge have gotten rave reviews however if Fender did infact change the accompaning cases from SKB to G & G they should update the Spec's section for this item as some folks may be expecting an SKB Case,..... I like both cases my self but other's may prefer SKB... :)

I agree. Fender should stay up to date with the product pages of all their accessories that accompany other products. Instruments, and accompanying cases, etc. I knew I had the hard-shell case coming with my Fretless Jazz, only because of ordering from Sweetwater Sound's Guitar Gallery showed the photo of the case with that particular bass.

Finally found it....only to be disappointed. The thrill of victory, and the agony of defeat.

Quote:
I have to agree with regard to the lines on the fret board & I have to say I feel lucky to have one of the Jaco Basses with the side dot markers placed on the fret line,( Fender centered the side dot markers in 2008)..... I found that having the side dot marker placed on the fret line was also a big helpwhen I started playing the fretless

I located the bass i have been looking for, a Jaco FCS Tribute bass crafted in 2002. I was disappointed to learn that it had the side marks between frets, so I am guessing the change in side marks was on the Artist Series. I have one of those, but too new and the marks are between frets on that one, also.

So, here is the question. Is there a fretless Jazz, MIA, with marks on the fret? How about adding a board with no lines? FCS issue would be fine, even though more pricey.

In the meantime, I will change my search to AS Jaco prior to 2008.

I have been playing my 74P fretless for a week now, and while I like the feel of my Jaco a bit more, having the side marks on the fret makes a big diff, at least the way my brain and fingers communicate.

What's out there?

Wow ! This thing turned into a 9 page postfest!

I haven't touched my fretless bass for a couple months or more. Too busy getting ready for the "Big Gig". There's no call for a fretless in the music we're doing.
I feel bad.

You SHOULD feel bad! After all you've been through and all that's transpired.

What were we talking about?

I have a fretless I fool around with occasionally, but it really doesn't suit my current gig:

Thanks James, I like the planks look on the body, and it plays very good.

Hey did you hear that tomorrow at NAMM Fender is Unveilling an American made Geddy Lee jazz bass ...the same updated look as his Custom shop bass minus the distressing & hefty price tag of $7000. It will go for $1599.00 .... the neck is going to be a bit chunkier with pearl block markers & white binding on a maple fret board ...the back of the neck is hand oiled .... & the pick ups are going to be hand wound to the same specs as the pick ups on his Jazz & a Geddy Lee /Fender Hi mass bridge & it comes in a ABS Moulded case ...I'm gassing Mr. N Fender is also coming out with a Bassman Hybrid 500 amp ....can't wait to find out more about it .....

Not right now, but it's on the list of instruments I'd like to get. I think I might have mentioned this before, but I use to have a Hohner Jazz copy around 20 years ago. I remember that I put a Bad $@! II bridge on it and it was a pretty decent instrument.
