Glad you stopped in to see us.

Those photos are awfully hard to go by. I can only blow them up so far before they get pixelated beyond use. One glaring thing I see wrong is I'd expect a real 1976 Fender to have a 3 bolt neck with the triangular neckplate. Strike one. This obviously has the 4 bolt rectangular neckplate. And shouldn't there be a skunk stripe on the back of the neck on a 76 Jazz Bass? Strike TWO!

Jazzes had a 3 bolt neck for sure in 76. And shouldn't the FENDER part of the decal be on the peghead of a leftie that year instead of near the nut? STRIKE THREE! It should have the black knobs standard to Jazzes but these look metal however due to the poor photography I can't tell.

I'd pass on this as it is possibly fake and certainly is not an original 1976 Fender. Possibly modified or a parts bass. I can almost smell it from here even with the bad pics. Stinky! AVOID THIS SELLER HENCEFORTH if they are representing this as a genuine original 1976 Fender Jazz Bass because I'm certain it isn't.

Welcome fellow lefty! Do yourself a Big BIG favor and buy a brand new left-handed Fender American Standard Jazz Bass. The build & sound quality are crazy good. Far better than any CBS era Fender and leaps & bounds better than anything from the 90's.

Here, check this out: http://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=75633&hilit=lefty+jazz

Always deal with an Authorized Fender Dealer. Always

Brother Dave is likely the most knowledgeable person on this forum. I am a student, and I like to see how many of his "points" I can find on my own. He always wins. But in this case I can verify his observations, should that be necessary. Pass.

Well I see those pictures and think that bass may be legit.

I can't tell without better pictures, but the bass could be an early 1975. The serial number begins with a 5, rosewood necks did not have skunk stripes and Fender decals were often cut short on left-handed basses and Fender could be on the left or right side of the peghead.

They used to leave off the model name on lefty's because it didn't look right to them to have Jazz Bass Fender on the headstock.

I would say if you can get a good price you may want to give this bass a closer look by hiring a pro to check it out for you. Just make sure that the pro is right handed so he doesn't snap it up. LOL

On closer inspection- I have to conclude that the Jazz bass is a fake. The tuners are wrong , the truss rod adjustment is wrong for a 4 bolt Fender bass of the 70's and the look of the body is wrong. The body looks too squared off, for lack of a better term, and the bass is obviously a re-branded copy of some sort.

DO NOT TRADE A LEGIT USA MADE INSTRUMENT FOR THIS BASS!!
Keep your Musicman 5.

I would save your money and avoid this bass unless it just a great player that you want for its utility as an instrument .

It is not a Fender bass.

Absolutely NOT a 76 Fender and NO it is not a 75 or 74 either. They NEVER put the decals that close to the nut. It should be closer to being centered in relation to the string retainer if a 75. With the higher res photos I just viewed it is clearly bogus. Probably a decent enough player though. I'm thinking either a parts bass or maybe something like a re-decaled Tokai. Tokai made some real close copies with nice block inlaid necks. Not sure if they did the lefties though but their righties looked this good. Also the knobs are definitely chrome which is so wrong.
