Hello,

I'm from Holland/Netherlands so forgive me my rubish english

I have a Rumble 350 and i want to buy a Fender Squier Vintage Modified Jazz bass 70's. Is this a good combination? And what can you say about this combination? What sound is coming out? Does anyone have some experience with this combination or a combination that's kind of the same?

The Rumble 350 (combo) is very flexible and can make any bass sound good with the control layout and frequency range settings, especially with the "Overdrive" system.

However, as with most basses using two single coil jazz pickups, there may be some unwanted hum - unless the two pickup volume controls are set to the same level to null the hum. I'd suggest that you find a dealer where you can test the Squire before you purchase it to get the feel of the volume and tone controls. There are basses available with 'silent or humbucker' jazz pickups and testing one of those as well might give you a better idea as to what to expect from your Rumble 350.

Good luck with things and please let us know what you decide.

Thnx for the hint!

If there is a "hum", can i solve it by buying Fender N3 Noiseless J-Bass Pickups? I saw them for €135,-. That should be a payable solution right?

And i saw some bassguitars with wristband.

Welcome to the Fender Forums, Remko! Great first post and good question.

The Rumble 350 is a great amp in its own right. It has excellent thick; rich, and deep tone with plenty of meaty mids and spanky highs too. It is the very best combo in its price range.

Fender Forum member 'CPL' has the very same rig you are thinking of: Squier VM 70's Jazz & Rumble 350 combo. Hopefully he'll see this thread and tell you all about them.

The Fender Noiseless pickups will take care of the noise situation that we mentioned... but, you may also wish to check others, such as the DiMarzio Ultra Jazz or Area J pickups in the link below. I personally prefer the DiMarzio DP149 set over the Fender style because the DiMarzio's have a higher average mv output. But, that's just my opinion.

If proper grounding of the combo amp or head through the power cord is in place and a high quality amp to guitar cord is used, there shouldn't be a need for a guitarist-worn wrist strap. I have only seen those used in the recording studio where the air was dry and the engineer didn't want any static electricity 'popping' present in the room while recording tracks.

I think i will go for the dimarzio dp149 too. I've read the description and it's exactly what i'm looking for in a Jazz bas. Thnx! :D
But i'll try the squier with the standard pickups first

I own a VM Jazz and it isn't that noisy. A less expensive fix would be to apply shielding to the cavities. Here's a website that will tell you everything you may need to know about bass guitars.

I also own a Squier VM Jazz 70's Style 5. I had a couple of minor issues with it, crooked string tree and knobs would scrape the control plate, but the playability is great and the sound was okay. It's true that you will get some noise if the pickup volumes are set differently. but other than that mine is very quiet.
I replaced all the electronics and ended up with a fuller sound, which is what I was looking for. I use this bass as a back up and it's perfect for that. I have also used it a few times on gigs and it easily held it's own.
Here's a link to the thread I posted descibing and showing the upgrades I did along with brotherdave's help. Maybe it will help you.

Just thought I would add.....after the mods were complete I played the Squier at a local music shop through a Rumble 350 head with a Fender 4x10 cabinet. I thought it sounded very good. Full, clear sound with plenty of bottom end.
