Hey fellow Jazz's,

I have a 1962 Jazz that I bought back in the 70's. I recently discovered that the neck pickup is dead. Any suggestions? Can it possibly be fixed? If not, should I replace it and hold the old one of course or just leave it be?

I'd get a tech to look at it. It might need rewinding and it might not. I wouldn't send it off to get rewound until I knew for sure it needed rewinding. If you send it off to get it rewound then it will get rewound. If it turns out to be something else causing it you just wasted $140 for nothing.

It's a tech that discovered the problem. He found a highly reputable person that rewinds vintage pickups for $55.00 with a two day turnaround.

Bro Dave still makes a good point.

Even though you may need a rewind on that pickup,it would first be a wise move to have the original pickup examined to see if the original winding can be saved. Often a tech may be able to unwind a pickup to find the break in the winding and fix the pickup w/o rewinding the orig coil.
You should save some $ and if not you have saved the integrity of the instrument by keeping the pickup somewhat original.

I own a 1982 '62 vintage reissue bass and its pickups were potted in lacquer! When they went bad there was nothing i could do but trash them. i replaced them with Seymour Duncan Antiquity pickups.

Good luck with the process.
