Okay I saw where the suggested retail price for a Custom Shop 72 Geddy Jazz is $8000. When are you getting one ? :?:

Rush is my favorite band! And Geddy is my favorite bassist and one of my biggest influences, but 8,000.00 dollars for his Custom Shop Signature bass is ridiculous! I could buy a car with that amount of money!

James - I know you want it, the conversation has gone that route before. I am waiting for pictures.

$8000 is a lot for a bass. But it has to be thought of as discretionary spending. Everyone, including those below the poverty line, use money for enjoyment or vices, things not necessary to get by. I choose to spend my discretionary money on bass guitars, and jewelry/vacations for my wife so she will not complain about my basses. :D

I'm ahead.....but don't tell her.

FYI all of his Custom Shop Jazz Basses are fitted with three large bakelite knobs as opposed to the regular Artist models.

+1

Custom Shop instruments are extremely expensive.

The RED GED looks nice. I don't know much about that one but I would say it did not cost $8000 for Geddy to own. It probably sounds killer.

That transparent red FMT has been recently outfitted with a black pearloid pickguard.

James C was totally stoked to find out that this Bass was actually being made available to the Masses... :) & then I went to the Custom Shop web site & saw the asking price..     yes that was my reaction to $8000 & I posted my reaction in the CS Geddy Lee/Sean Hurley thread.....I'm guessing the street price will be $6500. but still     & I just bought a SWR 750X head leaving me a little tight at the moment
so I think owning my CIJ 2006 Geddy Lee artist series Jazz Bass is going to be it for me with regard to the Geddy Lee Bass .........though Down the road (far down in a year or so) I'm still liking the Tony Franklin fretless P-Bass & the Marcus Miller Jazz 5 ( both are MIA & a lot of bang for the buck, The Tony Franklin is $1699. & the MM5 is $2300.)........ but in the meantime I currently have 7 Fender Basses & 1 Ibanez acoustic bass to keep me busy.(all of my basses are shown in my avatar with the exception of my Reggie Hamilton Jazz Bass & Select Jazz bass & I'll get around to getting a Flickr account & posting Pics at some point but to be honest I'm just plain lazy & just too busy though I'll gladly share pictures privately as it's way easier) ..... anyway as I said,... being a Rush Fan since the age of 14 (now 49) & being really excited to see the current carnation of Geddy bass being made available.. that excitement quickly turned to disappointment when I saw the asking price..... I've never paid more than $2200. for a bass & at $8000. for the CS Geddy Lee Jazz Bass($6500. street) ....the CS distressed Jaco Pastorius Fretless Jazz bass at $4500. street price is a screaming Deal....IMO :)
