I checked out the specs for the MIM Standards. They're specifically using alder for the body wood now...and I read somewhere that Fender is using alnico pickups for the MIM's. I'd have to go for the MIM Standard, since they're using more traditional style hardware, while the American Standard isn't.

I ended up with a MIM Standard black with maple fretboard.

I snagged some black block fender jazz bass style inlay decals, which I will apply.

Thanks for the info folks!

One more question if I may.

I do not see any screws on the pick guard outside that would lead me to think the pickups or guts were mounted to it like they are with strats. Am I correct in my assumption that only the edge screws need to be removed to swap out a pick guard?

Thanks

Congrats on your MIM Fender Jazz Bass purchase.

You are correct in assuming that the Fender Jazz bass pickups are mounted directly to the body so that you can change the pick guard without removing the pickups.

I would think twice about those inlay decals. They won't hold up over time but if you really want to try them out - go for it!
